Engine/Transmission Performance Calibration Engineer


Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

We are seeking an Engine/Transmission Performance Powertrain Calibration Engineer for a dynamic role developing and releasing new high-performance engine and transmission control systems and calibrations for a wide range of applications while also maintaining our existing product offerings. You will define system requirements and generate technical solutions for current and future programs. Identify and define requirements and resources needed for the development of calibrations. Develop and provide functional calibration sub-sets for each engine/diagnostic subsystem for crate engines and vehicle performance upgrades. Work with the software integration lead to coordinate the unique software set required to control a crate powertrain. The successful candidate will be self-sufficient, enjoy working through challenging issues that span a broad range, and have a passion for high-performance vehicles!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Product Development Teams’ activities with review of Installation Sheets and procedures to guide customer installations

  • Submit change requests in time to meet program achievements

  • Support vehicle integration projects with the Propulsion Systems Performance Group with technical direction to support personnel

  • Design wiring harnesses for crate powertrains and supporting documentation for sourcing

  • Perform root cause analysis and error correction of system level problems relating to calibration, controls, hardware, software, and architecture

  • Lend assistance for resolution of vehicle and/or customer issues and provide technical guidance to our dealer network

  • Conduct development and validation testing in test cells and vehicles

  • Initiate and coordinate “remote” testing required to support functional calibrations

  • Support existing performance powertrain products including continued development and release of service-related updates

  • Support emissions and regulatory testing for E-ROD and performance accessories

  • Provide regular updates to global purchasing and Customer Care & Aftersales

  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products

  • Support several performance events including various car shows and auctions, i.e., Autorama, Barrett-Jackson, Woodward, NHRA events, Hot Rod Power Tour, SEMA, or PRI

  • Adhere to all Safety Precautions and Requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities

Additional Description


  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or, equivalent related field of study

  • 5+ years demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area is required

  • 5+ years of calibration and transmission and/or engine development experience

  • Lead technical projects from cradle to grave

  • Handle unique technical challenges and multi-task accordingly

  • Perform transmission and/or engine calibration tasks

  • In-vehicle instrumentation systems and data analysis experience

  • GM calibration management tools (ETAS, VehicleSpy, DPS tool, vCDM, Creta, etc.) experience

  • Experience with powertrain systems and their controls

  • Mechanical and controls proficiency

  • Creative thinking skills

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed

  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment

  • Must have valid driver’s license

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Project management experience

  • Wiring harness design and requirements

  • Dynamometer engine testing experience

  • Emissions testing experience

  • Experience with powertrain diagnostics development

  • Experience in CAN/GMLAN and other communication protocol stacks

  • Understanding of powertrain dynamics at both system and component levels

  • 7+ years working in development of powertrain systems and their controls

  • 7+ years of experience: with Gasoline, Diesel, and Transmission development
