Engineering Group Manager - Battery Cell Application Development

This team will be responsible for the application, and integration of a battery cell design to be utilized on multiple electrification programs. This manager will be the overall engineering technical lead for cell development and be responsible for defining the cell component design requirements and will define the workflow that is integrated into a Battery Cell Process of Engineering. This individual will require knowledge of materials, electrodes and electrolytes for high energy and high-power batteries, knowledge of manufacturing process and automation of assembly, formation of Li-ion cells, module and pack design and knowledge of performance and quality requirements (SPC, APQP and others) for small and large Li-ion Battery Cell System. The team will support cell integration into Module and Pack, Release, Battery Technology, and Battery Validation. As a people leader this individual will be responsible for the product, process, tools, and team training. The leader will manage workload models, resources and business system as well as year over year productivity enhancements.

Seeking highly motivated EGM candidate to manage a very dynamic high voltage battery cell engineering team. You will craft specific to functional communication on vision & strategy, which may include preparing and giving presentations.

Training & Developing: Ensures employees are in compliance with all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead design and development of GM battery cells. Lead battery cell technical specialist responsible for defining cell system and component requirements per Process of Engineering deliverables

  • Develop, document, and implement standard work and best practices (including standard work with other stakeholders)

  • Recruit and attract top talent to meet staffing targets to design and develop all cell sub-components and total cell as a system.

  • Highlight & implement strategies to foster GM behavioral characteristics required for successful teamwork

  • Provide opportunities for career growth and professional development (including collaborating on career growth opportunities with other teams)

  • Negotiate budget requirements and ensure compliance

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering Bachelor of Science Degree

  • 8+ years of experience in automotive high voltage lithium-ion battery cell design

  • Design/Production Release experience including component and system validation experience

  • Experience with Component Statement of Requirements (SOR) and Component Technical Specification (CTS) development and change document management

  • Experience with automotive PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) quality processes.

  • Demonstrated experience in balancing and manage risks with projects, suppliers, quality, and production

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with Sr. leaders

  • Ability to travel internationally as necessary

  • Functional knowledge of engineering budgeting process

  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability. High level of self-motivation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to network and run effective meetings with diverse participants that collaborate cross-functionally and globally to reach optimized solutions

  • Proven ability to develop cell component supply base and establish long term relationships with strategic suppliers

  • Ensure service strategies and recycling as part of cell requirements definition

  • Lead and resolve supplier issues/roadblocks
