Gas Engine Calibration Specialist

Engine Calibration Specialist Engineers are integrally involved in the development of calibrations which support control functions and diagnostic capability of the engine systems. They support the lead calibrator and diagnostic strategist, as well as partners including the members of the vehicle platform, manufacturing plant and quality team. Depending on the area of responsibility, a Calibrator may focus more heavily on control or diagnostic calibration functionality. This is a meaningful role that ensures the powertrain integration to vehicles performs at world class levels to meet program objectives.

Hybrid Role : This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as appropriate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and document requirements required to design a calibration system

  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within Vehicle Calibration and Engine Controls.

  • Coordinate requirements development with other activities

  • Provide support to other engineers for root cause analysis

  • Strong ability to efficiently capture and analyze empirical data.

  • Design Tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvements

  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices

  • Identify and document calibration vulnerabilities and build mitigation action plans; track corrective actions

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related Engineering degree

  • Minimum of 2 years of technical and/or manufacturing engineering experience

  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis on complex problems

  • Knowledge of powertrain systems

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work individually and in a team environment

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully accomplish tasks under minimal direction

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles

  • Able and willing to travel. Typically, ranging from 2 to 4 weeks per year

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science in Engineering

  • 2 years of Engine Calibration experience

  • Experience with in-vehicle testing

  • Experience INCA/ETAS data acquisition

  • Automotive OEM experience
