Global Director, MarTech Strategy & Solutions


The Global Director, MarTech Strategy & Solutions is core to the broader transformation toward world-class modern marketing capabilities at General Motors. This role is part of a larger Performance Driven Marketing (PDM) team tying together the ‘modern marketing machine’ including PDM planning & insights, measurement sciences, marketing data & operations, and consent & privacy.

In this role, you’ll be building a department and leading the transformation towards a modern marketing organization through data-driven marketing. Key to success will be building excitement around driving forward a comprehensive, rationalized marketing technology strategy and execution that revolutionizes how General Motors can go to market. You will build out the vision, strategy, and execution towards a closed-loop data-driven ecosystem across the customer lifestyle via development of MarTech architectural strategy, productization of the MarTech stack, activation through journey orchestration and AdTech, and enablement of measurement & optimization.

This role requires self-starter, with deep expertise in the marketing technology and activation space. We are looking for a superior evangelist and collaborator who can establish vision and sell-in across a diverse and matrixed group of stakeholders. A proven track record of defining and implementing identity-based data management platforms (DMP / CDP), deep knowledge and expertise across the full MarTech solution space (email, CMS, AdTech, identity resolution, etc.), and deep understanding of the importance of data platforms to drive precision, value, and return on investment impact will also be critical to success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise-wide centralization of marketing technology strategy via key stakeholder engagement and create ongoing process to optimize technology investments

  • Define and build enterprise-wide modern marketing technology architecture and roadmap including the customer data platform (CDP), data management platform (DMP), AI / ML personalization engines, attribution approaches, identity resolution, email & text service provider (ESP / SMS), digital assess management (DAM), etc. Understand industry direction and best practices. Create a unified view of architecture that encompasses technology, data, and people.

  • Partner with Customer Experience, Chief Data Analytics Office, and Information Technology teams, to ensure dependent strategies to enterprise-wide MarTech strategy are understood and aligned to ensure maximal business impact

  • Drive documentation of business requirements to inform overall strategy and future proof for the ever-evolving ecosystem

  • Accountable for design, delivery, and productization of MarTech stack, enablement of measurement / cleanrooms

  • Design and operate an embedded business services team to create data-driven journey orchestration strategies and campaigns; partner with PDM operations and PDM analytics teams for execution, measurement & optimization

  • Work in deep partnership with PDM peers to craft a comprehensive PDM toolkit and flawless operating model resulting in a well-oiled machine for the enterprise

  • Responsible for translating business and marketing expectations into strategies, capabilities, and business justification (value, total cost of ownership, impact) that result in marketing efficiency and effectiveness across the enterprise

  • Partner with key groups to drive vendor assessments to create best-in-world ecosystem based off business requirements, future proofing, and implementation timelines

  • Drive accountability cross-functionality for flawless design and delivery of technology solutions to be on quality, on cost, and on time through agile and waterfall business sign-offs

  • Demonstrate thought leadership and publish best-in-class guides for internal and external facing audiences on topics such as data-driven audiences, cookie-less world implications, MarTech / adtech evolution, etc.

Additional Description


  • 15+ years of relevant professional experience with a background in marketing technology, marketing analytics, AI / ML

  • Significant previous experience in matrixed organizations, with an understanding of embedded / central structures

  • Experience leading large teams in a matrixed structure with budgetary responsibility

  • Expert knowledge in 1st party data collection and management, including data taxonomy design

  • Expert in MarTech tools and solutions, including customer data platforms (CDP), voice of customer (VOC), social listening, email service providers (ESP), marketing automation, personalization engines, content / experience management, journey orchestration tools, and more

  • Experience in onboarding, identity resolution, and clean rooms (e.g. LiveRamp, Neustar, Merkle, Epsilon, Google ADH, etc.)

  • Deep strength in ability to translate campaign requirements into target audiences for cross-channel activation

  • Hands-on experience with customer-level event and attribute data for audience segmentation, targeting, and measurement

  • Knowledge of customer privacy regulations (CCPA, GDPR, etc.) and industry changes (iOS14, cookie deprecation)

  • Have worked to map post-cookie strategies for their business, including defining a first-party data strategy as well as other solutions in a post third-party cookie world

  • Previous experience working with CRM data and integrating it into broader media strategy, implementation, and optimization approach

  • Direct experience working in a diverse, matrixed cross-functional teams to collaboratively define data-driven strategy, approaches, and division of labor to drive business impact

  • Strong influencing skills and an ability to navigate through complex decision-making processes with multiple stakeholders

  • Excellent ability to break down and communicate complex ideas into actions and present to senior level leaders

  • High level of ownership, quantitative savvy, and entrepreneurship

  • Advanced degree preferred
