Global Engine and Transmission QRD Engineer


Global Engine and Transmission QRD Engineer (Engine and Transmission Hardware - Quality Reliability Durability) is responsible for improving customer satisfaction by leading product resolution of warranty claims.  

Key responsibilities

  • Analyze warranty data, categorize, compile and track claims
  • Lead Field Return parts analysis (work-cells) and support determining issue root cause and plan for containment and irreversible corrective action
  • Ensure Warranty Claims are binned correctly, captured in the issues tracking system and both temporary and permanent design changes are driven to closure
  • Work in a strong inclusive/collaborative manner with Brand Quality/CCA, Assembly Plant, Engineering, Program Development Quality and Supplier to conduct analysis and identify root cause of issue
  • Identify Vehicle level System Level Issues that require cross-functional engagement and collaboration
  • Track Warranty Spend trends and Pareto issues/prioritize issue resolution and prepare key documentation for leadership reviews
  • Develop Warranty Incident Per Thousand Vehicles and Cost Per Vehicle predictions to identify gaps to the established targets
  • Drive Lessons Learned activities and feed learnings forward into future Engine and Transmission programs/Support Quality Chain activities
  • Assist with closure of PRDs (Prevent Repeat Defects) with high fidelity
  • Maintain Top 20 issues list – report out to CPIT / Focus CPIT / daily calls, as needed
  • Conduct warranty update activities at regular intervals to ensure latest claims are captured in Gate Chart, coverages are provided to CQEs, and program summaries are updated
  • Keep Product Warranty Engineers, Continuous Product Improvement Teams and System Management Teams up to date of QRD status
  • The selected QRD Lead Engineer will coordinate and lead discussions with all other regions, as needed (with GMNA being the priority).
  • Travel may be required to suppliers, assembly plants and is estimated to not exceed 5% of total time.

Additional Description


  • Experience (3+ Years) with automotive in Engineering, Manufacturing or Analysis

  • Bachelors degree is required, Engineering Degree preferred

  • Design Release experience preferred

  • Prior plant experience or working closely with Assembly Plants preferred

  • Automotive development experience
