GM Fuel Cell Electrical Integration Engineer

Description

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

Overview

Are you a motivated and data driven engineer interested in contributing to GM's Zero Emissions future? The Fuel Cell Electrical Integration Engineer is responsible for integrating high voltage components (Stack, Power converter, Air machines, etc.) in the Gen 3 Fuel Cell System. In this position you will evaluate the physical layout of HV components for conformance to the system architecture, electrical safety concept, design best practices and related performance requirements.

When there are risks or issues to achieving the system’s targets the Electrical Integration engineer will work with subject matter experts and stake holding teams to develop alternative solutions or re-balance performance expectations. Strong communication and organization skills are needed as you work closely with subsystem engineers, the Gen 3 DSE and Fuel Cell Business Validation Engineers. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Throughout Gen 3 system life cycle lead activities that physically integrate high voltage design elements into the system.

  • Support system performance assessments by creating then executing test and modeling plans intended to reveal system risks and issues.

  • Review component configurations available from hardware release engineers and identify ways to enhance system performance or system packaging.

  • Initiate root cause analysis and resolution of high voltage related issues that occur during test execution

  • Provide input to STS/BOD/BOM/BOP


Additional Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.

  • 3+ years of high voltage engineering experience.

  • Technical interest in high voltage components and how they work together in a system.

  • Understanding of relevant engineering fundamentals such as power electronics, HV isolation and safety.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate differences of opinions and facilitate discussion as needed with collaborative multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.

  • Strong oral, graphical and written communication skills to effectively communicate issues, status and recommendations to senior management.

  • Familiarity with design and release management processes (EWO, PRTS, etc.).

  • Must function well in engineering design team environment and have experience working with manufacturing engineering, and other engineering teams.

  • Thorough knowledge of design development, test engineering, manufacturing/assembly operations, and engineering procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree in Engineering with 5+ years of proven experience.

  • Experience with fuel cell or electrification products

  • Experience working with global partners

  • Development or validation experience, including warranty or root cause analysis

  • Experience with fuel cell or electrification products
