Description

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

The GM HYDROTEC Fuel Cell Design Integration and Components Release Team is looking for 2022 HYDROTEC Hydrogen Storage Systems (HSS) DREs .  These leaders will be tasked with the Hydrogen Storage Systems (HSS) execution of the HYDROTEC fuel cell programs: introducing GM’s first commercial HYDROTEC Fuel Cell Systems (GEN2 FCS), next generation HYDROTEC Fuel Cell Systems (GEN3 FCS), and the pioneering fuel cell application – the HYDROTEC fuel cell power cube.

As part of HYDROTEC Thermal & Fuel Cell Power Cube Components Team , these HSS DREs will lead the design and release of GM’s fuel cell product engineering co-development and manufacturing joint venture with Honda (FCSM LLC), in addition to several new GM-only power cube applications for commercial trucks, locomotives, aerospace, and power generation.

HYDROTEC HSS DREs will be responsible for leading the product development team in the definition of requirements, execution of design, and planning of analysis, development, & testing. These leaders will also provide technical direction to the supplier, product development team, and engineering support personnel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads overall communication, coordination, and consultation with engineering departments and customers for responsible components

  • Establishes designs to meet program performance and timing requirements

  • Analyzes design through design failure modes effects analysis (DFMEA)

  • Plans and implements complex test and/or development programs

  • Demonstrates that designs meet requirements through analysis, development, and validation processes

  • Releases final designs for manufacturing or purchase as appropriate

  • Defines hardware and budget requirements for experimental build programs

  • Ensures designs meet serviceability requirements

  • Leads product development team(s)

  • Support warranty issue resolution

  • Participates in work groups with interactive/interfacing hardware/software teams as required

  • Travel as required

FOR GM INTERNAL CANDIDATES: This role is posted at both the 7th and 6th level. The determination by HR and the Hiring Manager as to whether an offer will be lateral or promotional will be based on a candidate’s relevant experience and whether the role will amount to a significant increase in level of responsibility.


Additional Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgical or Aeronautical Engineering or 3 years of equivalent experience required

  • Experience in automotive system hardware engineering (development and/or release)

  • Experience working with suppliers

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Experience in problem solving

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multiple DRE assignments (various PMT’s)

  • Experience in pressure vessel technology

  • Experience with Carbon Fiber winding technology

  • Red X / DFSS certification

  • Experience in hydrogen or CNG handling components (valves) technology

  • MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering

  • Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, engineering processes and procedures

  • Highly developed oral and written communications skills

  • Japanese language skills are a plus
