Group Leader Pre-Production Operations

Job Description

This position is NOT a Hybrid or Remote role, and it DOES require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.

This will be a 2nd shift position.  First Line Supervisor in a Pre-Production Additive Manufacturing, Stamping, and Machining, leading a medium size team of skilled hourly employees engaged in 3D printing, inspection, sheet metal stamping, NC machining, and construction of pre-production tools. Manufacturing processes include both manual and automated operations and requires a high level of independent judgment.  Responsible for Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost & Environment metrics.


  • Continue to build upon and grow the additive manufacturing area of the shop.
  • Develop and continuously improve throughput strategies for parts and tools early in the vehicle development process in a dynamic environment and with some degree of uncertainty. Oversee, assist, and coach a team of hourly skilled trade Metal Model Makers.
  • Provide leadership to team members during the product manufacturing process and validation phases.
  • Lead projects and teams with accountability for results.
  • Support the integration and collaboration of PPO teams, quality teams, manufacturing launch teams, program, and product engineering teams to support launch excellence.
  • Support the enterprise and coach Team Leaders on TIP, GMS and BIQ4 initiatives.
  • Track / chart all team performance metrics to SPQRCE goals & scorecard.
  • Maintain good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union, management, all Product Engineering stakeholders.
  • Drive and enforce safe work practices with the highest priority and implement objectives for improved ergonomics, health & safety, and housekeeping.

Additional Description

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing, planning, engineering, or related.  
  • Demonstrated ability to drive SPQRCE business performance metrics
  • People leadership experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to implement GMS principles
  • Working knowledge of all safety absolutes and policies.
  • Demonstrated excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships and lead team members to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects & assignments with medium level of autonomy & high accountability for results
  • Compliance to the local and national labor agreements
  • Ability to work any shift and weekends as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Experience leading in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in process engineering
  • Knowledge and ability in process engineering / manufacturing concepts
