HIL Simulation Engineer - VIP

Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

The Role

GM is accelerating on a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation! The VIP SIT - HIL Simulation Engineer position will put you at the forefront of this transformation. Vehicle software is changing and evolving at an ever-increasing rate. This position is responsible for developing HIL models of different modules for our upcoming vehicle programs. You will have the opportunity to express creativity when it comes to root causing system wide issues. This role will involve partnering with the software development team to identify new opportunities to utilize simulation, in order to decrease reliance on physical test properties. High level of communication skills, both written and spoken is a must. There is no “standard work” for the unexpected, but it is encouraged that we learn from the past and institutionalize permanent corrective action moving forward. Together we can ensure our higher risk launches are timely and with quality.

Responsibilities

  • Create & integrate models, software and hardware into our simulation infrastructure. These can include Simulink models to represent consumed serial data, High Voltage systems  and CarSim & other plant models to represent the vehicle’s physical systems, and other models

  • Manage & execute tests on dSPACE hardware-in-the-loop simulators to support customers’ automated driving control code development and validation objectives

  • Partner with the software development community to identify new opportunities to utilize simulation, in order to decrease reliance on physical test properties (Support Global eV model and ICE model)

  • Advance the development of the core co-simulation infrastructure.  Scout new technology & methods for opportunities to improve system capability & efficiency in preparation to 2025CY alluvial milestone

  • Actively foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment

  • Maintain models & serial data updates for Chassis, electrification (propulsion & charging), BEV Heat, restraint systems & Body controls subsystems to increase our simulation capabilities

  • Troubleshoot current model issues


Additional Description

Requirements  

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or Computer Science

  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience, post graduation

  • Experience with any of the following:

  • Model, software, or hardware in the loop control system simulation experience,  especially with dSPACE HiL, MATLAB, and Simulink

  • Vehicle controls system experience (ADAS, chassis controls, powertrain controls, etc.), in algorithm development or calibration.  Including expertise with CAN, or automotive ethernet

  • Active safety, automated driving, or autonomous vehicle related experience – in algorithm development, calibration, design/release, testing, or validation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a highly collaborative, diverse, multi-functional team and with a broad customer base

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual, difficult, and ambiguous

Desired Skills  

  • 5 Years+ of industry experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • Virtual environment and sensor modeling software experience- such as VIRES Virtual Test Drive (VTD), CARLA, Carmaker, Prescan, SCANeR, rFactor, CarSim, Forum8, or Mathworks Automated Driving System Toolbox is a plus

  • Background with python scripting or C/C++ coding for test automation applications

  • Vehicle dynamics / brakes / steering / chassis / Electrification / Powertrain / Body controls  experience, especially in simulation

  • Participated in Agile Development 

  • Engineering Project Management (i.e.: PDT, PIT Lead, SWIL, Scrum Lead)
