Hybrid : This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite monthly.

This new platform shall seamlessly connect in-vehicle computing controls with cloud and edge computing resources.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking In-Vehicle Ethernet Specialist support the Software Defined Vehicle organization and Ultifi within the Mechatronic Platform Design Team. This team supports the definition and implementation of the infrastructure software building blocks of an industry-leading capability to introduce new software applications in vehicles.

The position will require frequent interactions with different project teams, with internal experts from different application domains, with automotive components suppliers, with silicon suppliers, universities, and start-up companies. You'll get the chance to work first-hand with our engineering teams ensuring the level of alignment and technology insertion vital ensuring research work that truly matters in our final product.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead as a system level engineer the definition of the in-vehicle ethernet topology of the new Ultifi electrical architecture platform

  • In-vehicle communication systems and protocols, IOT protocols, and cloud protocols
    (e.g. automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, DDS, MQTT, diagnostic protocols, pub/sub, service discovery, quality of service guarantees)

  • In-vehicle architecture and network topology proposals, evaluations, comparisons, and optimizations.

  • Represent GM and contribute to external standardization activities and technology alliance groups in the area of automotive ethernet

  • Strategic contributions towards a software defined vehicle and evolutionary contributions to GM’s current electrical architecture (Vehicle Intelligence Platform)


Additional Description

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, networking and/or embedded software development

  • Experience with Ethernet protocol and Automotive Ethernet networks

  • Experience in service-oriented network protocols

  • Excellent teamwork skills and project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

  • Knowledge/experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) based development is desirable

  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR software platform and its communication stack

  • Knowledge of Functional Safety standard ISO26262
