Industrial Engineering & Ergonomics Manager

The Industrial Engineering (IE) Manager is responsible for supervising plant industrial engineers and other roles supporting the function. The person in this position will team with management to develop hourly and salary staffing plans and lead actions to achieve productivity objectives and control labor costs. The selected individual will interact with production management daily regarding all matters related to staffing requirements as well as support development of direct and indirect labor targets with Accounting and Operational Leadership. Provides leadership and support for all current production Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics and Global Manufacturing System (GMS) related activities to achieve plant goals and objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Promote safe work practices as highest priority and implement objectives for ergonomics, health, safety and housekeeping
  • Assist plant leadership in attaining Business Plan Deployment (BPD) goals and objectives
  • Drive first time quality of all industrial engineering deliverables
  • Direct resources in the implementation of Industrial Engineering roles & responsibilities
  • Recruit, hire and train industrial engineers as needed to support the plant
  • Facilitate the implementation of GMS training and education to support continuous improvement
  • Champion Manufacturing Excellence Index-KPI plan for the site and drive year over year improvement
  • Champion Throughput Improvement Process (TIP) through data tracking, reviews, training and coaching to drive plant performance improvements
  • Drive plant ergonomic activities – ensure all cases are closed within four (4) months
  • Track hourly and salary headcount for the plant.  Partner with the Human Resources & Labor Relations department to discuss staffing needs and develop plans.
  • Attend Plant Manpower Meeting to establish productivity targets for plant and departments
  • Lead Plant Productivity Meeting – review all open productivity initiatives and drive execution of the projects for cost savings & budget attainment
  • Drive coordination to track and remove containment labor
  • Prepare headcount for budget development
  • Provide Financial Department with headcount forecast every month
  • Attain IE budget and headcount objectives
  • Ensure integrity and consistency in reporting of labor, including monthly/quarterly headquarter submissions
  • Conduct Global Manufacturing System (GMS) calibration (including calibrator visits) & provide support for external GMS calibrations
  • Champion Operational Excellence process for the facility.  Engage cross-functional teams to lead projects to reduce cost and improve performance.
  • Identify and communicate continuous improvement opportunities
  • Conduct specific manpower studies (rate changes, etc)
  • Direct resources to support indirect labor worker efficiency studies (Quality, Maintenance, and Manufacturing Support)
  • Participate in bi-monthly IE Manager Network Meetings
  • Prepare and Manage performance review process for all industrial engineers
  • Assess IE's skill set and execute plan to correct inefficiencies; overseeing employee and student development
  • SME in Harbour Reporting and lead improvement plan for the site
  • Support Program Launch activities
  • Support operation readiness
  • Coordinate IE deliverables to meet launch timing and metrics; implement countermeasures as appropriate
  • Assume IE responsibility for annual model changes and Mid-Cycle Enhancements (MCE)
  • Support local negotiations by providing information and recommendations
  • Identify and communicate opportunities in headcount staffing
  • Identify and communicate best practices

  • A minimum of 2-years in a managerial position
  • 4-year industrial engineering or similar degree
  • Must be a master in excel
