The Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) team supports the definition, design, and development of continuously improving mobility services. SDV is a new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road!  Within the Software Defined Vehicle, GM is developing the next generation of embedded platform software to deliver state of the art Infotainment features on the Ultifi platform.

The Infotainment SW Program Leader has the overall responsibility for entire software life cycle beginning with the software requirement definition and program planning to the final delivery of a commercial product to the market. This role will work closely with internal and external teams across the globe to deliver software on time, and with the high quality our customers have grown to expect.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage software programs and coordinate with global software teams to ensure Infotainment software deliveries are on schedule and with high quality 
  • Lead the software core team to create, maintain and track the program plans 
  • Work with all the Infotainment Release Train Engineers to ensure smooth execution of software program in the SAFe framework 
  • Proactively drive and coordinate GM internal stake holders and suppliers to ensure each milestone is reached on schedule 
  • Manage critical program changes, risks, and issues. Ensure issues get highlighted, addressed, and resolved timely and effectively
  • Oversight of program progress and report status to the senior leadership team 
  • Coach infotainment program managers/ RTEs 
  • Follow GM software development process where quality comes first and ensure that the designed solutions conform to architectural requirements such as scalability, maintainability, reliability, extensibility, usability and security.
  • Foster and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment to motivate global team while driving process improvement and innovative solutions
  • Identifying and removing obstacles that prevent global team from accomplishing goals.
  • Ensuring team has the proper equipment, tools, training, and resources to accomplish assigned tasks within defined processes and procedures, while adhering to appropriate budgets
  • Anticipate technical, schedule and cost risks then implement mitigation actions to minimize impact
  • Define and meet the quality goals for each deliverable
  • Ensure domain teams’ capability to overcome technical challenges and create and nurturing long term plan and opportunities for team members grow up on each technical domains
  • Participate in review designs and implementation proposals, and making tradeoff decisions
  • Overall Project Management with assigned Core team with responsibility for:
    • Product SW life-cycle including requirements, system design, development, deployment, and maintenance of the embedded software for vehicle components
    • Perform analysis, resolution, and tracking of defects to closure
    • Coordinate and participate in architecture, requirements, design, code, and test case reviews
    • Work closely with wider organization leadership support triage and resolution of system issues in a timely manner
    • Interact and facilitate with internal teams and suppliers during all phases of development and integration to refine understanding of requirements and identify innovation opportunities
    • Program manage supplier deliverables, quality, and timing
  • Lead management interface and represent project team across various levels of organization, including vehicle program management, product execution teams, and executive leadership.

Additional Description

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering
  • Minimum ten years of experience in an automotive or embedded product development organization
  • Extensive experience in vehicle system integration
  • Significant experience in all aspects of the SW development process, from up front requirement analysis, systems design experience to backend integration
  • Proven, key leadership traits and skills:  collaborative work style, integrity, creativity, objectivity, assertiveness, effectiveness, responsibility, honesty, reliability, strong business acumen
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Development experience on multi-disciplinary teams in the infotainment, consumer electronics, or related software industries
  • A passion for innovation and raising the bar in teams, technology, and projects
  • An analytical mind that thrives in a data-driven environment
  • Operating systems experience with one or more of the following: QNX, Linux, Android
  • Knowledge in Scrum/Agile software development methodology

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering
  • Experience with automotive and/or portable consumer electronic devices
  • Prior automotive product and software launch experience
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile software development process and SCM tools like Git, Gerrit, OpenGrok, and Jira
