IT Project Manager


Note: This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. They will be encouraged to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

This role is for a Project Manager / Scrum Master on the Record-to-Report (RTR) and Financial Planning & Analytics (FPA) IT team. The RTR and FPA IT team is part of the Finance, GBS & Corporate Functions (FGCF) IT organization. As a Project Manager / Scrum Master, you will lead multiple projects and teams to ensure projects are completed on time while attaining the desired project outcomes.

Primary Responsibility:

  • Define project scope, charter, goals, and results in support of business goals while working with senior IT and business leadership for approvals

  • Handle the end-to-end project lifecycle from portfolio planning, project inception, pre-work, optimization, initiation, planning, execution, releases and close down

  • Handle project planning, execution and deliverables using key GM tools including Project & Portfolio Management (PPM), Azure DevOps (ADO) and Galileo

  • Track, manage, report and communicate status in a timely manner to provide visibility on overall project health and status (e.g., project 4-up reports, backlog status, task / deliverable burndown charts, sprint status, team velocity, risks / issues, etc.).

  • Keep the team moving forward by fostering team self-organization and removing distractions, impediments, and roadblocks.

  • Ensure the team is fully staffed, functional and productive

  • Ensure goal alignment and close cooperation across all functions and roles while removing barriers and resolving conflicting priorities

  • Identify, assess, manage, monitor and report on risks that could impact team productivity or the ability of the team to meet its goals and commitments

  • Identify, prioritize, solution, manage, escalate and resolve issues that are impacting the team

  • Encourage and lead team to be more self-organizing and self-managing

  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance the team’s productivity, efficiency and development capability.

  • Facilitate Project / Agile meetings including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint demos, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives and other meetings as required

  • Enforce team ground rules and cultural norms

  • Assist team in prioritization and in making appropriate commitments through story selection, story estimation and task definition

  • Show team planned velocity vs. historical velocity, to make sure targeted work can be accepted

  • Track and monitor resources to identify shortfalls, risks and issues based on sprint plans. For example: anyone with little visible progress, Wait times or other wasteful processes, Poor software engineering practices, and Slippages in quality or velocity trends

  • Foster conversations and team communications; Facilitate discussion and encourage consideration of alternatives or different approaches

  • Promote inclusiveness and ensure all have a voice and seat at the table

  • Recognize and address behaviors that are counterproductive to the team dynamic and meeting sprint objectives

  • Mediate peer disputes and interpersonal or working style differences

  • Review action items and hold team accountable for follow through

  • Bring transparency to the business and grow business trust

  • Assist Product Owner(s) in overall and sprint-specific planning & prioritization.

Additional Description

Minimum Qualifications: 
•    Must have 5+ years of applicable work experience in the following:
•    Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
•    Successful track record as a Project Manager / Scrum Master in leading large and sophisticated projects demonstrating different software development methodologies, specifically Agile, Iterative, and Waterfall
•    Proven skills, agile knowledge and software development experience to coach and guide team members across multiple software development methodologies and to help team members improve their skills and knowledge
•    In-depth knowledge of project management subject areas and deliverables (e.g. Schedule, Scope, Quality, Resource Management, Risk Management, Communications, etc.)
•    Basic knowledge across the entire end-to-end software development process to understand challenges of the various team members
•    Practical experience with requirements and test case development
•    Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Preferred Requirements 
•    Experience in identifying, measuring and monitoring key project success factors with respect to scope, schedule, effort and quality
•    Ability to handle expectations and build strong, trusting relationships with cross-functional business and IT partners (e.g., development teams, infrastructure teams, DBA teams, etc.)
•    Ability to interlock with cross-functional business and IT resource managers to negotiate requirements, estimate work, estimate resources and secure commitments to ensure project success
•    Strong proficiency with MS Office suite
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Solid understanding of Scrum theory, rules, and practices
•    PMP and Scrum Master certification
•    Experience as a Scrum Master for a software team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
•    Experience with HP Program and Project Management (PPM) software
•    Experience with TFS and Azure DevOps Server 2019
•    Experience with multiple agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.
