Lead Solution Manager - Tool Development

Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

The Role

The Lead Solution Manager is responsible for leading and working with others to define and support the building of tools and simulations to support in-vehicle software development.  The Lead Solution Manager has a customer centric mindset, makes plans, leads by example, and utilizes design thinking principles and practices to guide their decision making.  Lead Solution Manager is responsible for maintaining the Value Stream’s alignment with the Portfolio Canvas, Lean Budgets, and Guardrails.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Customers, Business Owners(BO), Solution Architects(SA), Vehicle System Engineers(VSE), Product Managers(PM), Solution Train Engineers(STE), Release Train Engineers(RTE), Epic Owners, and Subject Matter Experts(SME) as needed to understand and organize in order to deliver customer products.  Collaborative works will include:

  • Quantifying Program Timing Requirements, Market Rhythms, and development timing needs.

  • Develop and support an efficient Enterprise Lean Portfolio Management Epic Process including feasibility analysis, development roadmap, and approval for epics that may span value streams and ARTs.

  • Develop and support an efficient Program Epic Process which includes feasibility analysis, development roadmap, and approval for epics not processed via the Enterprise Epic process.

  • Develop and support an efficient Enabler Epic Process to support Architectural Runway.

  • Develop, document, and communicate the Solution Intent to program leadership teams.

  • Coordinate across ARTs within the Value Stream as required

  • Initial point of contact within the Value Stream for Epic Owners

  • Assess, plan, and participate with Epic Owners and ART PMs which customer products to develop.

  • Identify and manage dependencies within the Value Stream.

  • Identify and prioritize process improvement opportunities with STEs and RTEs.

  • Interact with Agile Portfolio Management Operations supporting Lean Portfolio Management(LPM)

  • Initial point of contact for the Value Stream processing Portfolio Epics

  • Work with Epic Owners and PMs to process epics and enablers during Review & Analyze Phases

  • Quantify, maintain, and communicate Value Stream capacity & capacity utilization

  • Quantify, maintain, and support funding needs for various shared service teams

  • Represent and support Value Stream during Strategic Portfolio Reviews and Portfolio Sync meetings.

Key Deliverables

  • Establish and maintain Value Stream Vision and a Roadmap containing epics and enablers aligned with Enterprise.

  • Quantify and maintain Value Stream timing plan aligned with Enterprise and vehicle program feature rollout plan.

  • Work with SMs, PMs, and Epic owners to get epics scheduled for implement from backlog.


Additional Description

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering, Math, Physics or Computer Science

  • 5+ years of Automotive experience with demonstrated technical and professional skills in Systems Engineering, Embedded Controls Development, and/or Program Management

  • Proficient at analyzing unusual and complex design challenges to make data driven decisions in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.

  • Highly developed and demonstrated communication skills, oral and written, to collaborate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, leaders, engineering staffs, and co-workers.  

  • Strong project management skills to lead, plan, prioritize, and execute work in a prioritized, agile way to meet or exceed objectives on time with quality.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for leading, actively listening, coaching, consulting, and resolving conflicts with people.

  • Bold, passionate, proactive innovator who has and will continue to participate with others to develop market solutions for our customers

Desired Skills

  • 8+ years of Automotive experience with demonstrated technical and professional skills in Systems Engineering, Embedded Controls Development, and/or Program Management
