Remote: This is a remote position, the selected candidate can reside and perform the work from anywhere within the United States.

Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) group is responsible for the definition, design, and development of General Motors’ continuously improving mobility services. SDV is the new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road! This space is ripe with technical leadership opportunities for advanced technology development, as well as the ability to provide mentorship for new employees. You can flex your teamwork muscles as you will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering, IT, and the business.

The Lead Systems Capability Engineer will be a technical leader for requirements and design development for a set of business features related to the next-generation of Connected Vehicle, Automated Driving (L2+) and Autonomous (L4) technologies being developed at GM. The candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end implementation of the said features. As the Lead Systems Capability Engineer, they will lead the strategy and execution of the specific capability domain as it combines with other capability domains and architecture to deliver these solutions. They will work with various cross-functional teams to drive and meet the program milestones. They will be the single point contact for the execution of the set of features from inception to launch. They will develop deep understanding of their problem space and be considered the technical expert for system design and performance. The utilization of ‘systems level thinking’ will be key in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of feature/capability strategy by defining technology and enablers and cross-collaborating with multiple teams to ensure feasibility and viability

  • Single point contact for feature execution working with the various program teams, leadership and engineering teams for a successful and robust launch.

  • Provide regular and key updates to the leadership and team leaders to ensure synchronization and smooth flow of information

  • Lead other systems capability engineers by providing direction in all aspects of systems development such as requirements definition, analysis and development of their applicable features/systems/capabilities

  • Continuously work towards improving efficiency within the group by improving processes, quality and mentoring the team members.

  • Lead/participate in software peer reviews to ensure compliance to requirements

  • Provide technical leadership for sophisticated technology development

  • Collaborate with other System Engineers and specialists to define and negotiate key functional and performance requirements

  • Root cause all applicable system related issues during testing and validation

  • Participate in Pre-Production builds (IV Builds & CTF) at PPO and provide feedback

  • Ensure work is completed as per the milestones with excellence

  • Responsible for compliance with GM processes and safety procedures

  • Represent the team globally as a key partner to the product

  • Support and/or lead activities for customer outreach and education in these technologies and their respective use cases

  • Talent development within the team and the Systems Engineering group

  • Cumulative travel requirements of 2 to 6 weeks a year are typical, primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US

Additional Description

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with automotive or similar electronic modules and systems engineering

  • Experience in performing system and component level DFMEAs

  • Deep knowledge of systems engineering principles

  • Strong technical leadership skills and an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues local and at remote sites

  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces

  • Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA etc.

  • Design/Development of safety critical systems/components (ISO26262)

  • Experience in automotive product release and specification process

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

  • Understanding of major automotive vehicle systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Network, and Powertrain

  • High level of oral and written communication skill with strong project management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related technical field

  • DFSS Black belt certification

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid in accordance with Colorado law. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of Colorado. The median level of salary compensation for this role is $139,548 - $161,295.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
