Lead Systems Design Engineer - ADAS - SDV


Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 days per week.

We are influencing the transformation of future transportation with ADAS and Automated Driving! Are you ready to make a difference at GM? The Systems Engineering Team is passionate about defining, integrating, and testing of Advanced Automated Driving systems and is looking for a Lead Systems Design Engineer to help us lead and manage the development and validation of automated driving technologies.

In this position, you will have the chance to support our Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) strategy and work at the intersection of System, Architecture, Hardware, Software and automated driving technology and have a hand in the early stages of GM`s next generation vehicles.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Defines and leads design strategy for new technology, highly complex features, or significant enhancements for current, new, or major programs.

  • Provide, technical leadership to execution teams for development and integration.

  • Define comprehensive design analysis of design solution

  • Provide, communicate, and support common best practices among System/Software community

  • Apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems in both familiar and unfamiliar domains

  • Define functional work splits and Interface Documents for major Hardware (HW), Software (SW) components interfacing and coordinating with subject matter experts in each area.

  • Analyze and negotiate requirements with internal and external stakeholders, trace their implementation throughout product development and integration

  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications with tools such as DNG, Raphsody, Jira, Jama

  • Lead FMEA and the allocation of identified failure modes to execution teams

  • Participate with cross functional development team (System, SW) discussions to ensure alignment with peers and downstream customers in the product execution side of the business

Additional Description

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree

  • Minimum of 3 years system architecture or system engineering experience

  • Hands-on Experience in DNG

  • Understanding of active safety systems, viewing features, and automated driving technology

  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a commitment to the tasks at hand

  • Ability to identify problems, analyze varying courses of action to determine, recommend and negotiate optimal solutions and execute contingency plans

  • Ability to process a large amount of information flow, identify multiple parameters, interdependencies and inconsistencies to provide both high-level systems overview and deep subject matter expertise

  • Strong technical and nontechnical communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • Hands on Experience in MBSE
