Maintenance Shift Leader - Stamping


Pontiac Metal Center is a 1.25 million square foot facility which includes five major presses (4 - IHI AA3X,1- Rotem XL) and is currently undergoing install & commissioning of FlexFab manufacturing (Trumpf CNC/Robotic cutting, bending, welding – the first of its kind with GM manufacturing). The traditional
stamping operation primarily supports Orion & Factory Zero assembly plants – the focal point of electrification and GM’s Zero-Zero-Zero vision.

In this role, you will oversee a group of salaried Maintenance Group Leaders, and lead the maintenance department. This includes, leading the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities aligned with standard GM-GMS maintenance practices. You will also be responsible for preventative maintenance and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolution – as well as sharing and using lessons learned from peer groups. You will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process and future strategies and projects related to the manufacturing process. You will be required to use your independent discernment.

The Maintenance Lead will lead & support GMS-BIQ activities in their department. This leadership role will have some opportunity to work appropriately; Workplace of Choice and employee engagement are central themes you can count on support for within Pontiac Metal Center.


  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements

  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment

  • Participate in the selection of new employees and trains, develops and evaluates salaried and hourly employees, and the development of highly effective teams

  • Trains, develops, and evaluates salary and represented employees

  • Supports technical guidance for complex and unusual plant operations or projects

  • Achieve budgets and forecasts within assigned area

  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training)

  • Evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment

  • Strategically plans & coordinates Maximo Workorders along with necessary resources for  equipment. This includes job plans, kitting parts, pre-task planning & validation process for work performed.

  • Develop and propose budgets for projects and program sites Work with Technical Specialist and Subject Matter Experts to implement lessons learned in BOP and BOE

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree required (Engineering preferred)

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience

  • 5+ years of leading skilled trades teams

  • Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies- RedX, DFSS, etc.

  • Experienced with hand-held measuring tools- i.e. micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, height stands, indicators, etc.

  • Ability to read and understand blue prints

  • Experience with using Teamcenter program, ACAP, Asset Disposal

  • Experience people leadership within UAW-GM network

  • Demonstrated GMS IQ with experience as SME or basketweave lead preferred

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills – solid background with MS Office suite a must
