MFG Launch/Deploy Software Deployment Manager


This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.  Relocation may be provided.

The Launch and Deploy Software Deployment Team is a DevOps team that is responsible for the execution of all application releases in the manufacturing environment, including installation of new instances and IT required configuration.

The Launch/Deploy Software Deployment Manger will be a functional and direct leader to several Software Deployment Engineers that work on multiple different applications. They will be responsible for ensuring that the different application teams are meeting the Launch and Deploy organizational goals. This is a diverse location team operating within multiple countries and states, so occasional travel may be required. They will be expected to interface with various levels of leadership in multiple different IT organizations including Operations, Global Infrastructure, and Development along with various business organizations including Engineering, Vehicle Systems, and Manufacturing Plants.

In addition, they will be a key member of the leadership team.  They will be expected to contribute to/weigh-in on strategic decisions relating to the team and support the Sr. application technical leads in understanding and executing the agreed upon strategic direction.   An ability to simplify complex problems in a way that resonates with different audiences, both visually and written, will be important. Understanding and demonstrating know-how to achieve results in the matrixed multi-discipline structure within GM will also be key to success.

The  Launch/Deploy Software Deployment Manager will: 

  • Manage multiple direct reports and be responsible for multiple people management requirements including performance management, career development and planning, talent development of team, work planning, mentorship, and other managerial requirements as defined by leadership and HR.

  • Interface with GM HR organization on broad range of topics including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, workplace of choice survey results, Diversity Equity & Inclusion initiatives, and professional development training opportunities 

  • Oversee most aspects of the work as directed by the Senior leadership including special projects

  • Be an active member of the leadership team and contribute to critical decisions impacting people, process, and IT product 

  • Prepare content on behalf of the Launch and Deployment team for senior leadership forums 

  • Lead/facilitate: Leadership meetings, Deploy/Release Reviews with Innovation Leadership, and special project initiatives

  • Act as the partner relationship liaison with Global Innovation and/or Global operations to maintain open line of communication, escalation channel, and intercompany transactions to ensure productive and successful business outcomes 

  • Take initiative to improve processes and effectively prioritize work 

  • Prospective team members possess a high degree of business insight, creativity, decision making skills, a drive for results, the ability to negotiate, the ability to develop strong peer relationships, and a strong technical learning capability and focus. 


Candidates should be high-performing individuals with proven track records and several years of broad or cross-functional experience who have: 

  • A significant knowledge of the corporate structure, vision, and related processes along with a proven successful track record in navigating cross functional teams to achieve desired results 

  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret data to provide insight and recommendations to complex, unusual, or difficult problems 

  • Experience in effectively managing relationships and influencing senior leaders and key stakeholders 

  • Over 5 years of experience as a functional or people leader

  • Over 3 years of IT analyst experience and an understanding of common software architectures, systems, and concepts 

  • A demonstrated proficiency in computer/system/data skills to manage presentations, analysis, and data insights 

  • Expertise in managing and leading complex projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy, confidentiality, and accountability for results

  • Familiarity with the plant manufacturing environment is preferred

  • Strong background in software/application development lifecycle, including budget, planning, requirements management, and test procedures.

  • Special consideration for experience in Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (AS/RS)
