Performance Parts Design Release Engineer

Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

We are seeking a Performance Parts Design Release Engineer in Propulsion Systems to support diverse activities critical to the release of their parts. Primary areas include supporting dyno testing, engine build activities, engine teardown and inspection, collaborating with personnel in our machine shop, and building relationships with other team members. Periodic visits to the Milford Proving Grounds to assist in special vehicle builds and support calibration activities on your parts, visits to supplier sites, and in-person support of a variety of events to showcase our products. Responsibilities:

  • Developing and releasing performance and racing propulsion systems and components including complete engines, transmissions, blocks, heads, intake manifolds, and accessory drive systems

  • Developing and releasing performance accessories for vehicles including short-throw shifters, engine covers, and performance enhancing stage kits

  • Working with designers and making design and release decisions

  • Performing engineering design evaluations

  • Using engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs

  • Recommending changes to designs and development plans to improve quality of products and/or procedures

  • Mentoring and leading suppliers to timely execution of program deliverables with excellence

  • Effectively prioritizing and performing multiple projects to achieve program landmarks

  • Carrying out engineering changes for propulsion performance parts and assemblies using Engineering Change Requests

  • Managing projects from initiation to completion with Customer Care & Aftersales Program Management, Purchasing, and Supply Chain organizations

  • Working to address warranty issues and support engine/transmission teardown activities to determine root cause of the failure and implement corrective action

Providing technical direction to Performance and Racing Propulsion Team support personnel relative to their specific projects:

  • Engine Build

  • Machine Shop

  • Dyno Lab

  • Engine development

  • Design and Analysis resources

  • Calibration

  • Providing Technical Support for the Chevrolet Performance Parts Display booth as required at events like SEMA, PRI, Woodward Dream Cruise, Barrett-Jackson and Autorama

  • Travel as required


Additional Description

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • 5+ years engine/transmission design, development, release, or calibration experience

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult

  • Understanding of engine/transmission engineering theory and principles of design

  • Familiar with standard design concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Willing and able to present information to leadership, colleagues, and customers

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed

  • Willing and able to travel to support the business as needed

  • Knowledge of primary metal forming processes (casting, stamping, machining etc.)

  • Familiar with standard design concepts, practices, and procedures

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • More than 10 years engine/transmission design, development, release, or calibration experience

  • DFSS Black Belt certified

  • Knowledge of Chevrolet LS/LSX/LT V8 engines
