Phone Integration Feature System Engineer - SDV

Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 days per week.

Our Connectivity Technologies group within our Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) team has an opening for an Engineering Feature Owner . The Feature Owners are the single-point of contact for critical feature definition and function. They are recognized leaders in their domain responsible for function and definition of feature content to build and meet performance requirements.

In this role you’ll interact across organizations to ensure features/functions are integrated optimally into the vehicle and implement new features/functions. You’ll be responsible for the Phone Integration into the Infotainment System. This technology, through wired or wireless integration, allows the end customer to use their smartphone safely and easily while driving, making it possible to make phone calls, messaging, listening to music and navigating through the in-vehicle touchscreen or voice activated controls.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, communicate and deliver on Phone Integration roadmap

  • Lead Certification of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

  • Manage Phone Dialer Application Feature in collaboration with Software and UX Teams

  • Lead development of global engineering requirements for Phone Integration

  • Support tier 1 and 2 developments of the Phone/Device technologies into GM products

  • Lead sophisticated development work in the domain

  • Build and maintain relationships across the domain ecosystem community including Partner collaboration (Apple, Google, Samsung, etc.)

  • Lead multi-functional Feature Development Teams (system engineers & other key partners)

  • Feature performance requirements including KPI's and determine feature set and sizing recommendations

  • Perform system modelling tool requirements and allocate system requirements for the feature

  • Responsible for System DFMEA/fault tree analysis

  • Drive validation and verification plan for feature

  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products


Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree

  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience working with Wired and Wireless Connectivity technologies (USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, Near Field Communication, Phone Integration (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Baidu CarLife, etc.)

  • Understanding of automotive infotainment system operation

  • Experienced with embedded automotive modules

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required

  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals

  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
