Planner, Portfolio & Project Management

Note: This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. They will be encouraged to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

This role will serve as a combination of a Planner, Portfolio Manager and Project Manager for the Record-to-Report (RTR) and Financial Planning & Analytics (FPA) IT team. Our IT team is part of the Finance, GBS & Corporate Functions (FGCF) IT organization.

This critical role supports development of the IT strategy and plan, supervises overall execution and results, ensures action items are completed on time, handles special assignments, and facilitates communication to the business leaders and IT leadership teams in support of the RTR and FPA Innovation Team objectives. This individual will be a critical partner in development and maintenance of IT roadmaps, IT resource plans, cases as well as analysis of portfolio performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Handle the strategy, planning and portfolio process by working with the PMO and cross-functional business and IT teams to build and maintain multi-year, strategic roadmaps with an overall objective to magnify business value

  • Ensure business leaders record and affirm the business benefit of each requested project

  • As necessary, change the approved portfolio through the CIO Project Change Request (PCR) process

  • Ensure timely compliance with Corporate, GPMO, and PMO portfolio directives

  • Set up new projects and support the RTR & FPA Delivery Managers (DMs) and Project Managers (PMs) to build and maintain resource plans for the portfolio projects

  • Track and monitor resource pools and overall resource utilization in the planning and execution of portfolio projects; Help ensure we have the right resources with the right skills on the right projects

  • Handle planned external spend requests through the GPMO and PMO approval process

  • Collect, analyze and report on PMO and other operating metrics for the team

  • Support DMs and PMs in aligning with PMO project management, data quality, metric and reporting processes

  • Analyze and interpret sophisticated quantitative and qualitative data to highlight and recommend solutions to potential problems

  • Set up, plan agendas and facilitate meetings including staff meetings, All Hands meetings, CIO review meetings and portfolio review meetings with business and technical teams

  • Build and deliver presentations to all levels of management

  • Coordinate the review and approval of project “sound bites” to highlight project deployments and business benefits

  • Lead team training needs, team travel requirements and handle a variety of other special assignments as needed.

As a Project Manager / Scrum Master, you will lead multiple projects and ensure they meet milestones, while attaining the desired project outcomes.

  • Define project scope, charter, goals, and results to support business goals while working with senior IT and business leadership for approvals

  • Handle the end-to-end project lifecycle from portfolio planning, project inception, pre-work, optimization, initiation, planning, execution, releases and close down

  • Run project planning, execution and deliverables using key GM tools including Project & Portfolio Management (PPM), Azure DevOps (ADO) and Galileo

  • Track, manage, report and communicate status in a timely manner to provide visibility on overall project health and status (e.g., project 4-up reports, backlog status, task / deliverable burndown charts, sprint status, team velocity, risks / issues, etc.).


Additional Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience

  • 5+ years of applicable work experiences as a Planner, Portfolio Manager, Resource Manager and / or Project Manager

  • Successful track record as a Project Manager / Scrum Master in leading projects demonstrating different software development methodologies, specifically Agile, Iterative, and Waterfall

  • Self-motivated, highly organized, accountable, capable of working with sudden and tight deadlines

  • Proven skills, agile knowledge and software development experience to mentor and guide team members across multiple software development methodologies and to help team members improve their skills and knowledge

  • Basic knowledge across the entire end-to-end software development process to understand challenges of the various team members

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiations skills with the ability to lead conflicting requirements to conclusion

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Experience in identifying, measuring, and supervising key project success factors with respect to scope, schedule, effort and quality

  • Ability to handle expectations and build strong, positive relationships with cross-functional business and IT partners (e.g., development teams, infrastructure teams, DBA teams, etc.)

  • Ability to interlock with cross-functional business and IT resource managers to negotiate requirements, estimate work, estimate resources and secure commitments to ensure project success

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office suite

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP and Scrum Master certification

  • Working understanding of business intelligence and reporting analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI and Cognos

  • Experience with HP Program and Project Management (PPM) software

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps / TFS

  • Experience with GM IT’s Galileo tool
