Product Designer – Customer Experience Design

Our Customer Experience Design group is seeking a passionate and talented  Product Designer  for the  Fleet Line of Business (LOB)  to design enterprise, customer-facing experiences across multiple brands and digital platforms. The Fleet LOB is responsible for all digital initiatives, including but not limited to an internal sales tool, web and mobile fleet management portal, driver app, and much more. Our business customers are the small and medium size fleet owners who use our products to operate and manage their vehicle fleet effectively.

The  Fleet Experience Team  is a small group of enthusiastic designers passionate about delivering best-in-class interfaces by integrating telematics and financial data and solving customer pain points. The design team is on a mission to help GM become a market leader in the Fleet related business solutions.

As a  Product Designer , you would collaborate with other designers, researchers, technologists, and business stakeholders to craft meaningful experiences for our customers through thoughtful design. The ideal candidate will have interaction and visual design skills, an understanding of user-centered design, and a passion for designing digital products.

Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate closely with team members to craft world-class user experiences across all products and platforms for vehicle features
  • Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve problems effectively
  • Craft interaction designs, advocating usability and user-centered design principles
  • Create design deliverables to communicate your work, including sketches, logic and flow, prototypes, wireframes, mockups, and specifications
  • Measure and analyze user experience research and testing to validate designs, get user feedback, and identify opportunities to improve the customer experience
  • Work with product owners and key stakeholders to brainstorm and identify opportunities, executing them as a flawless part of the overall user experience

Superb communication skills : You can communicate broad concepts as well as fine detail through written and graphical media. You can convey design solutions through sketches, visualizations, and prose. 

A quick study : You can understand systems and processes in software and the real world. You will be required to digest and understand the many complex factors that govern vehicle design, from social and peer norms to a multinational regulatory environment. You can successfully navigate those factors as you create design solutions. 

Outstanding collaboration skills : You are an effortless collaborator. You welcome ideas from any source and are prepared to build on them to make your team's work successful.

Comfort with ambiguity : You are comfortable working in a space where problems and solutions are not well defined. You can cope with change, shift gears comfortably, and decide and act without the total picture. 

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels 
  • Formal degree or training in HCI, Product Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, or related
  • Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in user experience design, creativity, and depth of thought
  • Open to feedback, knows how to give and receive criticism, and how and when to defend design decisions
  • Experience incorporating research into the design process
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills 
  • Highly Proficient in design tools like Figma & Sketch, prototyping tools like Axure & ProtoPie, and brainstorming tools like Miro & FigJam.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals
  • Experience working on enterprise-grade responsive web applications
  • Basic knowledge of creating design system libraries in Figma
  • Basic knowledge of accessibility in user interface design
