Project Technician/Engineer: Additive Manufacturing Research

Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

Who You Are

As a Project Engineer with our Advanced Manufacturing Research group, you will support multi-faceted research projects by integrating equipment into custom R&D test systems for manufacturing environments through the development of experimental test set-ups and creation/use of various data acquisition systems with a focus on additive manufacturing technologies. Develop unique embodiments of novel manufacturing systems and provide documentation of progress & lessons learned back to research staff.

What You Do

  • Follow all corporate safety standards and site safety policies, e.g. g-Risk, g-Comply, PTP, Lockout, chemical management, etc.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand manufacturing requirements and implement appropriate solutions
  • Build experimental test set-ups and integrate equipment into custom R&D manufacturing systems
  • Develop/use data acquisition systems to generate technical solutions and document findings
  • Work with additive manufacturing equipment
  • Ensure functional readiness of test systems through preventive maintenance, pre-task diagnostics/checklist, task instruction sheets, database maintenance, etc.
  • Perform hands on troubleshooting and implement engineering changes as needed
  • Establish course of action, timelines and landmarks for projects/assignments to meet the expectations and requirements of R&D teams
  • Working with peers to quickly resolve problems for the good of the project
  • Effectively communicate complex material before, during and after projects are initiated
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and competitive products to actively identify new areas for growth and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • Focus on continuous improvement

Additional Description

What You Need

  • Technical Degree or equivalent experience

  • Ability to work in an export controlled environment

  • 1-3 years of experience with manufacturing systems

  • Demonstrated analytical ability to problem-solve in an interdisciplinary environment to seek novel solutions where problems are unusual and difficult

  • History of hands-on fabrication of new devices/systems

  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing equipment/technology

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation for mechanical systems

  • Ability to travel periodically for training and on-site technology transfer

What Would Be Even Better

  • B.S. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing engineering or equivalent

  • 3+ years of relevant work/plant experience

  • Experience with FDM Polymer Additive Manufacturing processes

  • Experience with LPBF Additive Manufacturing for metals

  • Certification in Additive Manufacturing

  • Metallurgy testing experience

  • Machine shop experience

  • DFSS Certification
