Who You Are
As a valued member of the Battery Cell Systems Research team at GM R&D you will support the development and validation of advanced battery technologies for automotive applications. You will be responsible for advanced battery testing and database construction while providing technical and industry expertise in the general area of battery technology and battery testing, primarily with automotive applications. This role will offer the opportunities to collaborate internally with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, while also working collaboratively with external partners and suppliers.
What You Do
Develop high-level and detailed-level validation plans verifying the performance of battery systems and their components in performance tests and abuse tests
Cell testing: design cycling test conditions, protocols, and conduct battery safety tests to meet requirements for specific applications
Operate various lab equipment such as battery test equipment, power supplies, data loggers and temperature chambers
Support test set up/execution of various battery cells tests
Use test procedures, schematics or provided documentation to implement testing
Instrumenting test devices per the researcher’s request
Understanding and verification of test procedures and methods
Simple fabrication/modification of basic test fixtures
Support technical root cause analysis and resolution of issues found during testing
Compile test results and support test report development
What You Need
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field such as chemistry, chemical or electrical engineering or a related subject; or equivalent experience. An advanced degree would be an advantage.
2+ years experience in a battery development and test environment
Familiarity with battery and electrochemical test equipment (Maccor, Bitrode, Arbin, Solartron, Gamry, Bio-Logic etc.) programming, operation, methodology, and data analysis
Ability to read & interpret electrical, mechanical, and other engineering drawings as well as other technical information
Strong organization and ability to manage parallel projects
