What You Do
We need motivated researchers to join in our perception, planning and decision systems research group at GM's Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to the research, innovation, and development of future autonomous vehicle localization and mapping technologies. You will get to work with test vehicles, simulators, state-of-the-art sensors, software, while crafting new solutions for tomorrow’s vehicles. Your will research, prototype and test algorithms and software that are core to success of future automated vehicles. You will also be contributing to advanced fundamental AI/ML research related to autonomous vehicle localization while collaborating with global research partners and universities. Who You Are
Work as an independent yet integral member of a research team developing innovative AV localization and mapping solutions
Maintain pioneering knowledge in vehicle positioning and localization systems, AI and machine learning techniques to enable robust AV localization
Generate intellectual property, document results, and publish
Represent GM in external research forums, university research partnerships
Identify research gaps, initiate, lead and conduct new ground breaking planning research projects for highly automated passenger vehicles
Develop C/C++ and/or Python code to prototype proof-of-concept systems.
Follow agile/scrum software development processes and CI/CD tools as needed
Demonstrate strong sociability skills while working collaboratively with global cross-functional teams and research organizations
What You Need
PhD or MS with 3+ years of research experience in electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering, computer science, physics, or similar area of focus
Expert-level knowledge in AV localization. Strong math background in high-dimensional data manipulation and estimation theory
Strong software development skills in C/C++ / Python under Linux environments with a proven ability to deliver high-quality software
Develop requirements, performance evaluation metrics for AV localization and conduct performance benchmarking
Experience in prototyping algorithms, implement and test on vehicles and simulators
Next-level sociability skills
What Would Be Even Better
Recent PhD in mobile robotics, simultaneous localization and mapping, probabilistic inference, behavior-based navigation, belief state, learning systems, estimation theory other relevant subject matter
Experience in autonomous vehicle prototyping, non-linear stochastic system modeling and simulation, system integration and testing
Kalman / particle filters, shallow learning algorithms, Monte Carlo methods
Hands-on development experience in one or more of the following tools:
PyTorch / TensorFlow framework
Docker, Git, Bitbucket, Open source software / data, Carla, Vires, RLlib, OpenAI
