Who You Are
As a valued Researcher with the Research and Development team here at GM, you will use your knowledge and experience to create power electronic and energy conversion systems for future electric vehicle propulsion systems. You’ll research, invent, design, procure, built, test and develop technologies in the areas of electric drive units & battery pack systems, thermal management and other next-gen propulsion concepts. You’ll work alongside highly experienced and capable researchers in state-of-the-art test labs to conduct simulations and prototype hardware experiments to collect required data and verify research theories that will impact future General Motors electric vehicles.
Additionally, you’ll be able to say you regularly collaborate globally with GM researchers and engineers in other subject areas (i.e. controls, motors, batteries, vehicle systems, materials and manufacturing). You’ll also write timely and high-quality research reports, external publications, and records of invention to detail new insights and results in your areas of research. What You Need
Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant area of focus
At least 0-2 years applicable experience
Ability to identify new areas of research in EV propulsion systems power electronics and related systems
Solid understanding in identifying and developing concepts within those areas using first principles and simulation tools, and carry out tests to validate the designs
Hardware testing and experimentation experience, including power electronics test equipment, dynamometers, instrumentation, troubleshooting, and data acquisition systems.
Familiarity with simulation and optimization tools for wide-band gap device based power electronic systems (e.g., PLECS, Saber, Ansys Suite, Matlab, etc.)
Experience with power electronics hardware design (CAD), fabrication, and assembly processes
High level of confidence and sociability in engaging with designers, technicians and test engineers
What Would Be Even Better
Education and/or experience in power electronics (converters, inverters, chargers, modeling & controls, power module reliability, thermal management & EMC modeling/simulation, scalable power module/converter design layout and packaging for high power density and minimum cost and EMC)
PostDoc Research Experience
3+ years direct industry experience
