Safety Representative- Factory Zero


Accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice, mentoring, instructing, and coaching to site/functional operations. They are responsible for assisting Site Leadership with the following to maintain compliance with all GM Workplace Safety and regulatory requirements:

  • Managing the site as Subject Matter Expert on Workplace Safety requirements

  • Analyzing Workplace Safety data and communicating results and trends along with continuous improvement opportunities; Assessing site Workplace Safety performance and conformance to requirements

  • Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety cultural transformation

  • Developing and educating site employees to drive Workplace Safety cultural transformation; and Developing partnerships with key site personnel including Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing Leadership, Human Resources, Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics resources, and Health Services.

  • Works somewhat independently  to  reduce and eliminate safety hazards

  • Assists in Investigating accidents and/or injuries; conducts safety audit, surveys, and inspections to verify compliance levels

  • Develops basic safety programs to reduce job related injuries and implements as directed

  • Meets with local union representative and assists in resolution of safety matters

  • Assist in the development and administration of plant safety rules and procedures

  • Reviews new equipment and methods for potential hazards

  • Analyzes safety statistics and develops recommendations

  • Assists supervisors in the safety training of employees

  • Provide Health & Safety support to the organization (i.e.: attends safety related meetings, participates in safety committees)

  • Assists other safety professionals as required

  • Creates reports and presentations as directed


  • BS/BA Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene or related discipline  or equivalent experience is preferred

  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial safety

  • Strong interpersonal skills including facilitation, negotiation and problem resolution

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others

  • Builds trust and respect at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set and execute to work plans with minimum direction

  • Strong analytical, organizational, prioritization and project management skills

  • Discretion in dealing with highly confidential matters

  • Proficient in MS Office and related software programs

  • Basic awareness of GM Global Manufacturing System
