Senior Global Network Engineer

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

About the General Motors Network Security Engineering:

The Global Telecom Network Security team is responsible for the design and implementation of secure solutions in GM’s global telecommunications infrastructure to ensure the confidentiality, availability and integrity of GMs information assets. 

About the role:

The Global Senior Network Security Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering and technical leadership for the deployment of network security solutions which support critical GM business units.  In this role, you will be a key contributor to the design and oversight of global network security solutions supporting GM employees, suppliers, dealers and business partners. You will also be involved in major Cyber Security initiatives and implementation activities at a global level to protect GM’s intellectual property. You will collaborate with senior network engineer and architects on complex engineering problems to provide and deliver secure network technology solutions to GM business.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of network security, DDI and application delivery engineering roadmap of GM’s Global Telecom IT network infrastructure. 

  • Provide leadership and technical expertise with the deployment and maintenance of GM’s network security, DDI and application delivery infrastructure and solutions.

  • Provide network security expertise and guidance around security issues and recommend solutions to mitigate and eliminate risk to GM information assets.

  • Collaborate with other Global Telecom Network Architects and Engineers to analyze network security needs and requirements and develop and implement security standards and technical secure solutions.

  • Responsible for contributing to the design of cutting-edge, high performance and secure network solutions and to help drive those solutions to completion.

  • Collaborate and provide input with GM’s Cybersecurity teams in the areas of Risk Management, Compliance, and Incident response to establish and enforce security policies for all network connectivity including virtual private network solutions, as well as business partner and supplier connections into GM.

  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to design and implement automated deployment and configuration solutions

  • Assist with remediation efforts and recommendations as it relates to external and internal security audits.

  • Help develop and contribute with mentoring of network security SMEs and provide technical leadership for the global network security, DDI and application delivery.

  • Responsible for detailed documentation of network security, DDI and application delivery solutions and technical security standards.


Additional Description

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or, equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience.

  • Experience working with Cloud/PaaS platforms, Azure Compute, and Enterprise Networking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Security, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 10+ year’s relevant experience with a proven record of successful deployment of network security solutions at a large-scale enterprise network.

  • Expert knowledge of remote access and network security technology solutions including client VPN, SSL VPNs and IPSEC with two factor authentication.

  • Expert knowledge with security concepts and technologies such as stateful inspection, packet filtering, 802.1x, Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention systems, Proxy technologies, network security monitoring, traffic analysis, Data Loss Prevention, DDOS and other security vulnerabilities and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Expert knowledge of DDI and Application Delivery infrastructure solutions, including load balancers, forward and reverse proxies, DNS, DHCP and IPAM (DDI) technologies.

  • Minimum of 6 – 10 years of experience in networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, Routing, Switching, Firewalls, IPv4/v6, UNIX Admin and experience with switches, routers, firewalls, IPS, Network Security Monitoring technologies in Intranet/internet/Extranet environments.

  • Ability to analyze and communicate strengths and weaknesses of network technology solutions, relative to network security, performance and cost.

  • Ability to work with other engineers to design cost-effective and reliable end-to-end solutions.

  • Experience with network architecture methodologies, standards and tools.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including executive-level presentations.

  • CISSP, CEH, SANS Security and other industry and vendor specific security certifications preferred.
