Sensing System Engineer - Camera/LiDAR

The System Engineer will support the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) strategy and lead the development and verification of automated driving sensor technologies. These roles will be either dedicated to camera or LiDAR sensor technology.

In this position, the engineer will be a part of the SDV ADAS Sensing System Architecture team and will have the chance to work at the intersection of camera or LiDAR hardware, software and automated driving technology (supporting SuperCruise, UltraCruise, etc.) and have a hand in the early stages of GM`s next generation vehicles/technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead multi-functional development team (System, SW, DRE) discussions to ensure alignment

  • Communicate any sensor requirements, integration and/or performance related topics to team members

  • Track and coordinate integration efforts with SW team

  • Develop, write and support system requirements development for these sensors

  • Define critical metrics and acceptance test procedures

  • Approve engineering and data collection vehicle sensor releases such as alignment, sync, interference, functional tests, integration tests

  • Work closely with sensor DRE and suppliers

  • Control and update sensor release plan dates

  • Understand the content of each sensor SW release, track changes, VeScom (ARXML), etc.

  • Apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning, and a structured approach to solving problems in both familiar and unfamiliar domains


Additional Description

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree

  • Minimum of 2 years engineering experience within Automotive, System’s Engineering or related industry

  • Focused exposure experience working in the camera or LiDAR sensor domain: development, functional integration, testing, requirements, etc.

  • Capable to write requirements documentation for acceptance tests, integration plan of SW models that will interact with the sensor

  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a commitment to the tasks at hand

  • Able to identify problems, analyze varying courses of action, recommend and negotiate efficient solutions and implement contingency plans

  • Able to process a large amount of information flow, identify multiple parameters, interdependencies and inconsistencies to provide both high-level systems overview and deep domain expertise

  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field of study

  • 5 years experience as Systems Engineer in Camera/LiDAR domain as part of R&D team or large multidisciplinary project

  • Hands-on experience with development and/or implementation of technology, in-depth background within the camera/LiDAR technology design (theirs physics, limitations, signal processing, data quality/format, etc.), and functional integration

  • Sensor testing (camera/LiDAR): Using lab test equipment and procedures, sensor integration and troubleshooting, and SW (Matlab/Python) for data analysis

Hybrid : This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 days per week.
