Service Engineer - Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS)


This is a  Hybrid  position within our CCA Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite, but will also require onsite work based on business needs.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite  monthly.

The Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) Service Team is hiring for 2 positions:

  • Service Integration Engineer
  • Service Release Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

The function of the  Power and Signal Distribution - Service Integration Engineer (SIE) , is to protect Serviceability of Design for their assign program(s) as it relates to on-vehicle repair. In addition, this team assists the Electrical Service Information Developers with the service strategies for “on car” diagnostic service procedures and Schematics Development work.

  • Build special service tools and procedures, communicate and advocate service technical requirements for serviceability in various engineering teams and forums

  • Seek opportunities for innovation by converging on leading data and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to achieve warranty cost avoidance targets, including developing, documenting, and resolving service issues by using data and case analysis

  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work reliably with business partners to meet mutual goals, develops and maintain constructive and coordinated working partnerships, and seek out opportunities for collaborative experiences.

The function of the  Power and Signal Distribution - Service Release Engineer (SRE) , is to release service parts into the aftersales parts catalog/distribution system to be made available for order by our dealerships. In addition, this team works closely with the SIE team to adjust release strategy based upon service requirements.

  • Collaborate with Design Release Engineers and Service Integration Engineers to author ECRs for component release.

  • Author/maintain change notes in the Aftersales Release and Cataloging (ARC) system

  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work reliably with business partners to meet mutual goals, develops and maintain constructive and coordinated working partnerships, and seek out opportunities for collaborative experiences.

SIE & SRE Responsibilities:

  • Program-Vehicle Compartment Based Serviceability focus

  • Engaged from AVDC through Launch

  • Compartment Integration Teams (CIT)/Design Reviews

  • Represent Aftersales within the global vehicle development process (GVDP) framework on programs from initiation in the Advance Vehicle Development Center (AVDC) through Launch to communicate and implement strategies to improve vehicle serviceability and avoid warranty/customer costs. (Advanced Serviceability of Design)

  • Communicate and advocate service technical requirements for serviceability including Sub-System Technical Specification (SSTS) and Component Technical Specifications (CTS)

  • Develop/maintain Advance Serviceability of Design (ASD) Validation Plans

  • Develop and validate special service tools for vehicle repairs

  • Represent Aftersales in Engineering Peer Reviews

  • Identify, document, address or advance serviceability issues as appropriate

  • Service Issue Database

  • Technical Case Development

  • Advance issues through Auros / PRTS

  • Coordinate with Aftersales Program Readiness Manager (APRM) through program development

  • Support Service Manual and Service Bulletin development, as required and the Owner's Manual Development Team

  • Warranty Cost Avoidance - Assist with meeting financial commitments through attaining budget target and achievement of warranty cost avoidance targets, developing, documenting, and resolving service issues applying case analysis.

  • Integrates Service Procedure Optimization

  • Apply math data, knowledge/experience & on-vehicle evaluations within each commodity to converge upon the most efficient removal & installation procedures for development of the most optimized repair procedures for GM Technicians

  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Service Information & Labor Time Development teams

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology, or equivalent experience

  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills

  • Sound analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

  • Understanding of engineering theory/principles and operation of mechanical mechanisms

  • Knowledge of GM's engineering related computer software (GPDS, E2, APM, TcAE, Vis Mockup) and proficient with Microsoft Office software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Automotive service experience

  • Solid understanding of automotive service practices and procedures and demonstrated knowledge of vehicle systems.

  • GM dealership or field experience

  • Hands on experience in automotive diagnosis and repair
