Software Development Manager

The Global Tax and Trade team is looking for a customer focused, dynamic, experienced IT professional who is ready to lead a team of young software developers and build world class solutions for the business. This is a Hybrid Position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite and will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility.

  • The Delivery Manager will manage a team of Software Developers who are responsible for the modernization and SoTD (technical standards) compliance of the homegrown GM International Operations / GM South America Tax and Trade Applications. (The business customers are in China, Korea, and Brazil. It is expected that 2-3 days a week there will be meetings / working sessions with business during normal business hours of these countries).
  • As the People Leader you will be responsible for the career development, rotations, coaching and mentoring activities for team members and direct reports.
  • This is a dual role where in addition to managing your team on a day-to-day basis, you will also be an individual contributor where you will manage and deliver projects yourself.
  • You will also be responsible for the business relationships with the business owners of the applications. You will be their “IT Face” for all their “IT Needs” which may go beyond the application that is being built / transformed.
  • You will ensure that software is designed and developed using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies and in accordance with GM’s software development project methodology; including but not limited to standards in code quality, performance, stability, security and overall alignment and compliance with project objectives.
  • To ensure highest quality of product delivery, you will be responsible for all code reviews, and you should have the required knowledge and skill to conduct those reviews yourself.
  • Responsible for the delegation and coordination of development activities across each team to ensure high utilization of resources while delivering world-class software across many platforms.
  • Responsible for staffing, communicating, training and development, directing and prioritization of work, evaluating performance and removing roadblocks.
  • Manages the culture within their team, holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. (Models GM behaviors and creates a winning culture.)
  • You will act as an “IT Consultant” to the business and that requires you to understand the business processes associated with the applications you are responsible to deliver. You will investigate and document complex business processes.
  • For the applications you build, you will own them from a L3 Operations perspective (Dev/Ops Model). You will participate in Incident Management and Problem Resolution.
  • Develop and communicate project status reports. Develop tracking scorecards and metrics to illustrate status and ownership. (Attention to detail when reporting status and preparing material)
  • Resolves escalated issues and roadblocks of a technical or organizational nature
  • Align cross-functional business and technical teams to help ensure alignment of goals and to help resolve conflicting priorities
  • Ability to handle issue resolution and remove roadblocks by navigating complex corporate environments and processes
  • Be proactive and responsive to day-to-day issues while maintaining strong sense of urgency and focus on delivery
  • Build effective partnerships with business leaders, including executives
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of software development and delivery experience
  • 5 or more years of experience as a People Manager
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or an equivalent education, training, certification, and experience; Master's degree in a technical discipline is a plus
  • Software development experience using Oracle, SQL*Server, PostgreSQL, PL/SQL, Angular, PCF, Azure DevOps
  • Must have experience and be comfortable leading highly technical teams through the software development lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing industry standard/best practice for software development approaches
  • Proven in-depth knowledge of Project Management disciplines and work experience on large-scale projects/programs with a successful delivery record
  • Experience effectively communicating messages to all levels of IT and business
  • Expertise in managing projects leveraging different types of IT project methodologies and life cycles (e.g., Agile, Incremental, Waterfall)
  • Experience with agile project methodologies
  • Expert in Program Management Tools (such as Azure DevOps, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, PPM)
  • Expert skills in Business Process Modeling (Understand complex requirements from business and get them down on “paper”)
  • Strong problem-solving capability; able to develop detailed requirements, action plans, analysis approach or processes within a predetermined set of boundary conditions
  • Excellent analysis, problem-solving, team, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict management and time management skills
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possess technical writing knowledge around system design specification and technical documentation of software systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Finance Business Processes
  • PMP Certification
  • Agile Certification (ACP, SAFe, CSM)
  • Lean Certification (Black Belt)
