We are looking for an experienced Firmware Test Engineer to support the development of our last mile product portfolio including the BrightDrop EP1. In this role you will be an individual contributor responsible for creating firmware test cases, executing tests through various stages of the development cycle and continuously looking for ways to automate the tests. You will serve as a technical specialist who can work on programming various devices. You will possess extensive knowledge of coding and software development working side by side with product engineers to analyze and optimize designs with an innovative mindset and a high degree of creativity and initiative.
The Firmware Test Engineer will design and implement test scripts to ensure product functionality and robustness. You will collaborate with developers and validation engineers to develop and automate test cases and tools for firmware validation. Other duties will include creating test cases, executing tests, debugging issues and defect management (filing and validating resolved defects). You are also expected to incorporate client feedback into firmware revisions and to maintain awareness of technological developments and industry best practices. You should have a strong background in software programming languages, show great attention to detail and be able to work within a cross functional team in a fast-paced changing environment.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Support the product and performance engineers by applying root-cause analysis for issues identified throughout the product life cycle.
Estimate project timelines and manage internal customer expectation related to product firmware.
Handle multiple projects without direct supervision.
Work in test labs, as well as the vehicle proving grounds, to define tests which maximize learnings from limited hardware.
Participate in design review meetings and provide appropriate recommendations regarding firmware.
Engage with various suppliers that provide active components.
Lead activity with firmware change control management.
Demonstrate familiarity with programming equipment (embeds firmware and provisions software onto “chips” to ensure they are secure (keys, certificates) and boot-up during manufacturing).
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
3-5 years' experience in the electronics industry.
1+ years of Firmware experience.
Proficient in programming languages, preferably C, C++, Python or other OOP
Demonstrated ability to deploy firmware, identify bugs, troubleshoot issues, and work cross functionally to fix defects.
Demonstrated experience using analytical skills and problem-solving techniques.
Elevated level of independent judgment and decision making.
Willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
Energized by a startup-type environment with elevated levels of ambiguity.
Highly developed interpersonal skills to work independently as well as effectively with others.
Ability to summarize and present work to cross functional teams.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
