Sr. Data Solution Analyst


Hybrid:  This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite  1-3 times per week .

About the Team:

The Global Purchasing and Supply Chain IT team provides the technology innovation behind one of the world’s largest digital supply chains, with a network of 182 plants, 650 logistics service providers and 3,100 suppliers to build 9 million vehicles and deliver to over 15,000 dealers worldwide. IT integrates the enterprise to make this happen. Our industry-leading team of analysts, developers, engineers, and architects develop, test, and deploy the technology that drives GM. This is an expansive team that is looking for a dynamic and critical team member.

Our Demand Supply Planning Data/Analytics team supports operational improvement and enabling decision-making for our business teams through curated enterprise data and self-constructed data sets.


  • Develop creative data acquisition solutions, driving the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources, collaborating with data warehouse engineers on data selection, preprocessing and formatting

  • Assess and build upon the current analytic tool architectures and implementations to support an outstanding “Big Data” approach

  • Participate in POCs to build break through technical solutions, supporting rapid, iterative development cycles.

  • Responsible for creation, comprehensive understanding, maintenance and communication of Logical and Physical Data Models for Project and Business Segment Data Areas

  • Own the generation of data dictionaries, data quality assurance reports, data validation decks and data summary reports

  • Develop a deep understanding of data trends; identify outliers, exceptions, and data inconsistencies

  • Promote and contribute to re-use and standards

  • Work with project managers, delivery, and dev leads to provide feedback on structuring project activities and estimates

  • Familiar with ETL dev patterns, preferably has worked closely with data engineers and leads

  • Contribute to building and maximizing re-usable data integration frameworks and patterns

Additional Description


  • Minimum 10+ years experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise IT applications

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field preferred or equivalent experience required

  • Ability to translate application data/analytics requirements to efficient data flows and models, using re-usable patterns

  • High SQL proficiency (Very important, 5+ yrs)

  • In-depth understanding, and experience modeling (5+ yrs), of dimensional data models (facts, dimension, star schema, etc)

  • Experience with ERWIN or another data modeling tool before (1-2 years+)

  • Experience with DataStage and ETL patterns

  • Experience with open source technologies, especially Spark, Java, and Python (others: Hadoop / MapReduce, ElasticSearch, Storm, Cassandra, Kubernetes, Elastic Storage System, Greenplum, Dremio etc)

  • Experience with handling data quality, data cleansing, data wrangling, and data standards.

  • Experience creating data structures to support machine learning models, analytics systems design, and development

  • Experience in analyzing source system data and data flows using SQL, data visualization and other techniques, working with structured and unstructured data

  • Experience with optimization and performance tuning

  • Strong problem solver with ability to evaluate a challenge and understand solution patterns

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within data & analytics in any space/organization and find this space to be exciting and opportunity to work with various customer domains and business face with other teams

  • A master’s degree in a technical subject area or equivalent experience in IT industry
