Strategy Manager - OnStar Guardian

We are seeking an experienced digital Strategy Manager for OnStar Guardian, a new business being incubated within GM’s Global Innovation Team. In this role, you will be responsible for the identification and qualification of strategic business opportunities, which align with the OnStar Guardian’s vision and objectives. You will assess and recommend the development of new markets, help define customer needs and value proposition, and facilitate market feedback to product development using rapid learning approach; and you will play a critical role in helping define and articulate the growth strategy for OnStar Guardian.  This position reports to the Director - OnStar Guardian Incubation & Expansion.

The Strategy Manager will lead strategic initiatives working with a cross functional team of key stakeholders in product management, engineering, sales & marketing, connected operations, legal, privacy and finance to develop recommendations. The Strategy Manager will also participate in external outreach as well as advocacy on behalf of OnStar Guardian to both potential 3rd party partners and the Safety & Security industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate industry dynamics to inform key growth initiatives for the organization
  • Provide analytical support on a variety of high-visibility and time-sensitive projects to advance near/far-term business goals, which may include competitive monitoring, market assessment, and scenario modeling
  • Conduct research to inform the development and evaluation of new growth options, including business plans, operating models, and impactful products/technologies
  • Serve as the analytical point-person on cross-functional strategy deliverables with complex data sets
  • Support the synthesis of findings through documents and deliverables with clear recommendations for the leadership team and cross-functional business partners
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses to inform the organization’s inorganic growth opportunities, and assist the Guardian team with strategy support
  • Assist with internal strategic planning processes, as required
  • Respond to requests for external partnership proposals and steer the negotiation and conclusion of proposals. Assist in contract and master policy negotiations and ensure implementation of signed deals
  • Work closely with the members of the Guardian team on proposals, Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFIs) responses

Additional Description


  • 10+ years of experience with either a strategy consulting firm or internal corporate strategy group
  • Experience working in the digital and/or technology sectors strongly desired
  • Self-starting personality with the ability to think strategically, problem solve and develop creative solutions
  • Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills; ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong relationship building skills including the ability to relate constructively/present to all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
  • Experience with complex negotiations
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field
  • MBA
