Sub System Lead Engineer - Body Electronics

This Systems role within the Body/HVAC/Passive Safety Electronics & Controls team will support new technology development applicable to aspects of autonomous, electric, and traditional internal combustion applications. Agile, System Engineering, requirements development, trailer interface or trailering connection, interior or exterior lighting controls, and controls integration knowledge are a definite plus. The Subsystem Lead Engineer (SSLE) is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, functional control strategy, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

  • Create and maintain subsystem/component technical specifications in IBM DOORS; includes functional and performance requirements, diagnostic requirements, and CALibration Bill of Materials (CALBOM).

  • Work within an Exterior Lighting agile team to provide guidance and input to feature function development; resolve complex issues.

  • Create and maintain mechanization drawings in alignment with Electrical Architecture ownership; verify System architecture alignment.

  • Work closely with Subsystem Management Teams (SMT) to provide guidance on functionality associated with specific feature variants.

  • Work with global software engineers to review software models to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements.

  • Support subsystem related issue root cause analysis, whether in vehicles or on electrical benches.

  • Work with global technical teams to perform subsystem level testing and defect reports.

  • Review Owner’s Manual and Service Information related to the applicable subsystem.

  • Implement new feature/functions related to the applicable subsystem.

  • Scheduling meetings to formulate solutions to issues and translate solutions into requirements.

  • Involved in bench and vehicle verification and validation testing for applicable subsystems.

  • Complete subsystem level DFMEAs and collaborate in System and Component DFMEAs. Apply learning across applicable subsystems.

  • Assess JDP and Compass reviews and providing appropriate feedback.

  • Support advanced technical work projects that drive future features, functions, and vehicle enhancements.

Requirements (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Software or Electrical preferred), Math, Physics, or Computer Science.

  • 2 + years of experience in applying microprocessor-based controllers to automotive vehicle electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming.

  • Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN, GMLAN, LIN).

  • Knowledge of embedded controller systems electrical circuits.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software/hardware requirements.

  • High level knowledge of software verification/validation process.
