Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

The Role

General Motors’ vision for the future is a world in which there are zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.  One way that GM is working to achieve that vision is through engineering the most intelligent vehicles in the world.
The vehicle intelligence platform, also known as “VIP,” is an advanced electrical architecture that underpins the next generation of vehicles, linking every sensor, actuator, switch, and controller.  The vehicle intelligence platform provides value to our customers by giving them new vehicle experiences and connecting their digital lives through the software defined vehicle platform, Ultifi.  None of this is possible, though, without the most talented people in the industry.
We are seeking an engineer with the passion to take the vehicle intelligence platform to the next level by engineering creative solutions and enhancements to the vehicle electrical architectures driven by change requests, new features, and overall system optimization.  This role will work within the propulsion domain and will cross between traditional ICE and Electrified propulsion systems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the electrical system architecture design execution over Propulsion Domain to support multiple product variants within multiple model years and multiple programs

  • Execute the evaluation of partitioning topology scenarios and ultimately establish the design direction for the functions set within the family of Global Electrical Architectures

  • Ensure the Propulsion Subsystems functions and interfaces are defined and designed in adherence to engineering standard work for the purpose of on-time high quality delivery of GM Electrical Architecture Core

  • Act as a product manager and primary interface with customers (e.g. Subsystems Engineers, Network Design Engineers and Software Engineers) and development partners (e.g. calibration teams, validation teams, or suppliers) over the Architecture Artifacts; includes tracking and reporting status of deliverables

  • Oversee and approve creation of physical and logical interface design artifacts mechanizations that capture the established direction; participate in creation of these artifacts as needed to maintain established timelines

  • Drive alignment and ensure compliance with established Electrical Architecture core technical strategies for solutions managed by the global component stakeholders within the Domain area

  • Identify opportunities to further optimize the system by repartitioning controls across organizational or otherwise conventional boundaries

  • Drive discussions to challenge necessary paradigms and develop business cases for realization where appropriate

  • Lead and support continuous process improvements, best practices, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Demonstrated ability to work across systems and organizations to get technical projects completed
