Role Summary:

Electronic Control Units (ECUs) continue to be an area of growth in the global automotive market.  General Motors is looking for exceptional candidates to lead the Electronic Control Unit Hardware component solutions.  In addition to owning the Bill of Design technology roadmaps, the candidate will be responsible for defining and communicating a shared technical and architectural vision for the ECU Hardware Agile Release Train (ART) to help ensure the system or Solution under development is fit for its intended purpose.

The Technical Fellow will be the global voice for technical expertise to deliver common business and technology missions.  Working within the Scaled Agile framework the Technical Fellow will describe the Solution Context and Solution Intent, analyze technical trade-offs, determine the primary components and subsystems, identify the interfaces and collaborations between them, define Nonfunctional Requirements (NFRs), guide Enablers through the Program Kanban systems, and work with Product Management, customers and Suppliers to help ensure fitness for purpose.

This position is within the Global Electronic Components and Subsystems team and works across the System Management Teams to provide common solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Big picture strategic guidance for Electronic Control Unit Hardware (ECU)
  • Significant background of building supplier relationships including existing relationships with ECU and electronics suppliers
  • Formidable knowledge in design for manufacturing and ECU fabrication facilities
  • Leader in defining future electronics and the requirements associated with them
  • Leader in industry forums such as Society of Automotive Engineers, CES Consumer Technology Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
  • Work closely with the Architecture team to define future ECU solutions
  • Work closely with Software Development teams to understand software linkages to hardware
  • Bill of Design (BOD) Technology Roadmaps
  • Thorough understanding of Emerging Technologies including Tier 2+
  • Lead the development of an overall BOD catalog
  • Extensive experience with ECU board layouts
  • Consolidate long range requirements
  • Lead technology benchmarking
  • Lead supply base engagement and relationship development
  • Aggregate portfolio and sourcing plans
  • Responsible for defining and communicating a shared technical and architectural vision to help ensure the system or solution under development is fit for its intended purpose
  • Analyze technical trade-offs, determine the primary components and subsystems, identify the interfaces and collaborations between them

Additional Description

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of embedded vehicle modules containing microcontrollers, memory, I/O, communication links, and/or embedded SW controlling electrical systems
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related areas
  • 10+ years of experience in the field of expertise
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • Patents and/or patents pending
  • Publications and awards in field
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification Required and Master Black Belt preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and train cross-functional collaborative teams
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with cross-functional partners to meet mutual goals
  • Comfortable presenting to GM leadership
  • High level of analytical problem-solving ability, including independent judgment and decision-making skills, where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
  • Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
  • Lead discussions, action plans and solutions to drive issues to closure
  • Excellent project management skills

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • DFSS Master Black Belt
  • PhD in Engineering, Math, or Physics

The median level of salary compensation for this position is 205,284.
