Test Engineer- Grand Rapids Valve Train


This position does require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite daily in Grand Rapids, MI.

We are seeking a Test Engineer for Grand Rapids Engineering where you will be a key contributor in Developing Plans, Schedules, Criteria and Requirements for Valve Train & EV components and systems. You will Prepare & Conduct tests along with reporting results. In this role you will also support the instrumentation of the tests as well as the calibration process of the hardware.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate performance and durability of Valve Train & EV components and systems

  • Support competitive analysis, performance testing and benchmarking

  • Assist warranty and End of Test analyses as required

  • Assist with the development of test set-ups/schedules based on Technology Roadmap requirements.

  • Set-up, instrument, troubleshoot and operate test set-ups, engine test stands, test equipment and instrumentation

  • Perform tests, data collection, data analyses and test reports

  • Document test procedures, support hardware calibration

  • Assist in design and development of test fixtures and instrumentationTroubleshoot test equipment, test set-ups and instrumentation

  • Participate in product development team activities as required

Additional Description


  • B.S. Degree:  Mechanical, Electrical/Controls or equivalent
  • Experience with engine assembly, disassembly and related tools
  • Ability to do programming, create test profiles
  • Excellent workplace organizational skills with data, hardware and tools.
  • Working knowledge of automotive engine fundamentals
  • Experience with data acquisition and post-processing, instrumentation and sensors.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings, procedures and technical specification


  • Knowledge of valve train and sub-system trends, product designs, testing methods
  • Working knowledge of EV Motor/propulsion fundamentals
  • 3+ years of Valve Train and testing experience
  • 1+ years of EV motor testing experience
  • M.S. Degree:  Mechanical or Electrical/Controls
  • Knowledge of Test Machines and Test Equipment
  • High Level Math Skills and Statistical Problem Solving
  • Experience with LabVIEW…INCA, CAN, Inertia are also good
  • GD&T
  • Black Belt / Six Sigma
  • Experience with laboratory grade test instruments, Oscilloscopes, load cells, optical measurement devices, CMM
