Tire Model Engineer


Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

GM Motorsports Competition Engineering is directly developing IndyCar tools in support of our Chevrolet powered race teams.  You will assist the GM motorsports group in correlating and improving simulation models and tools and be responsible for the tire model development and simulation implementation.   This is a very high-pressure environment working with race teams in the DiL simulator environment to prep for race events.  Operating and communicating under substantial demands and short timelines is critical as you become a key member of a racing development effort.   This role is based out of the GM Charlotte Tech Center in support of the driver simulators and motorsports resources based in North Carolina.

A background in motorsports support with experience reducing and presenting large sophisticated sets of data is required.  Race vehicle simulation and Driver in the Loop project experience is required.  Technical communication skills and a good knowledge of the English language (both spoken and written) is critical.  Report generation and presentation will be regularly required. The ability to work collaboratively with the various members of the program teams will be a critical skill for this position. We will expect you to be capable of thinking analytically, be customer-centric, and be highly structured with excellent relationships and communicative skills. You must be able to multi-task in a dynamic constantly evolving environment and bring a strong work ethic and integrity. 

Additional Description


  • Bachelor of Science of Engineering or Mathematics

  • 5+ years in motorsports engineering

  • Experience in correlation from track data to simulation environment

  • Racing Tire model experience is strongly preferred

  • Data Presentation

  • Ability to balance multiple programs efficiently

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed

  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
