VDDV (CAE) Engineer, Electrification & Powertrain Thermal Management

Description

Hybrid:  This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. 

This position requires an employee to be onsite  1-3 times per week

Role

VDDV (formerly CAE) Engineer will be a part of Global Virtual Electrification & Powertrain department responsible for 1D component and system level analysis to lead engine, transmission, and electrification system designs. Other responsibilities include development of new and existing procedures for electrified and conventional powertrains, as well as translating new technologies into product applications.

  • Conceptualize, build and exercise analytical component and system level models for electrified and conventional propulsion systems using 1D software tools (Amesim, GT-SUITE, MATLAB, Simulink or similar)

  • Provide design recommendations to Design Responsible Engineers based on interpretation of analysis results

  • Enhance current standard analysis practices and/or tools to improve prediction fidelity and execution speed

  • Interface with analysis counterparts across several VDDV teams representing global propulsion systems and vehicle engineering

  • Participate in product design and development team meetings and regularly present analysis results to engineering peers and management

  • Document analysis objectives, results, and conclusions using standard report templates

  • Keep abreast of new technology trends and competitive products

  • Travel as required

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer Science or related Engineering fields

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience with Amesim, GT-SUITE or similar software

  • Experience in MATLAB, Python or similar software

  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • Inherent curiosity to learn new technologies and applications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products


Additional Description

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer Science or related Engineering fields, with coursework in heat transfer and fluid mechanics

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Proficiency in Amesim, GT-SUITE or similar software

  • Experience applying 1D or 3D CFD tools to propulsion-related systems (thermal management, lubrication, crankcase ventilation, hydraulics etc.)

  • Familiarity or practical experience with the principles of propulsion system design, operation, or testing

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

  • Ability to solve problems that are unusual, difficult, and ambiguous

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
