Hybrid Position : This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
This position requires an employee to be onsite every other week.
In this role you will use virtual simulation tools to lead the design, development and validation of our future vehicles for vehicle dynamics, durability loads and integration of control systems.
Build multi body dynamics models and utilize to:
Establish optimized suspension and steering kinematic and compliance properties.
Virtually integrate chassis tuning parts to meet vehicle-level ride, handling and steering targets.
Optimize body and chassis structure cross-functionally with appropriate teams.
Predict chassis interface loads to facilitate body, chassis component and exhaust system design.
Integrate control systems as the need arises for performance simulations.
Support the development of cross functional simulation Master Model framework and data management to integrate control systems used in the vehicle development simulations.
Further virtual development capability by crafting new CAE load cases consistent with objective tests and subjective evaluations.
Integrate cross-functional vehicle dynamics model including chassis & propulsion controls and physics and act as a single point of contact for users inside and outside of team.
Continually improve fidelity of chassis / vehicle models.
Support / enable transition from hardware/on-road based development to lab and CAE environments through collaboration with vehicle development and objective test counterparts.
Interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross‐functionally and cross‐culturally to grow relationships and partnerships.
Ability to communicate, empower and influence others to enable world class designs, packaging efficiency and vehicle integration across SMT’s and Development teams.
Promotes GM's values and helps team make customer-focused decisions.
Collaborate with global VDDV partners on product design and capability improvement.
Required Skills and Experience:
2+ years of relevant experience.
Proven ability to work in teams, balancing technical theory with practical limitations.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
5+ years of relevant experience.
Advanced project or thesis work in vehicle dynamics and/or multi body dynamics modeling.
Practical automotive experience - Building, restoring, modifying; Performance driving schools.
Familiarity with multibody and/or controls integration CAE tools such as ADAMS/MotionView, CarSim, CarMaker, MATLAB/Simulink or other similar CAE tools.
Participation in automotive teams - Mini-Baja, Formula SAE, PACE, Eco-Car, etc.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering required.
Masters Degree or higher in Engineering preferred.
