Vehicle Integration Engineer - Data Logging


Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

The Role

The "Data Logging - Vehicle Integration" for the Vehicle Intelligence Platform (VIP) - Software Integration Team (SIT) position will put you at the forefront of data collection and analysis.  Our team only works on the highest risk and most challenging vehicle programs.  This position will test your project management skills by working with a tier 1 suppliers to come out with a rollout plan for next generation hardware.  Your leadership and techical skills will be tested as you will be paired up with cross funtional teams to help deployment configurations of these Vehicle Data Loggers.  A high level of communication skills, both written and spoken is a must.  There is no “standard work” for the unexpected, but it is expected that we learn from the past and catalogue our logging methodologies for future application.  Together we can ensure our higher risk launches are on-time and with quality.


  • Leads and creates technical solutions for logging - including specifying of requirements, functional decomposition, analysis, development and testing for our new major programs

  • VDR experiment configuration creation & modification on launch programs

  • Drive new features/electrical architecture testing and validation

  • Leverage event, report & feature best practices

  • Evaluate and Validate future hardware upgrades

  • Consult other logging solutions on lessons learned and best practices.

  • Coach a cross functional team in finding the root cause of software issues

  • Coach an early engineer to aid in the deployment of these data loggers

  • Provide, communicate, and support common best practices for VIP

  • Ensure that the data logging has permanent corrective action when mistakes are made

Additional Description


  • BS in Engineering with strong understanding of Software and Controls, Math, Physics, or Computer Science

  • 2+ years experience in software/controls

  • Experience working in Aptiv/Controltec vehicle data loggers

  • Experience with Vehicle electrical architecture and serial data

  • Experience with software debugging tools & methodologies

  • Experience with troubleshooting distributed control systems

  • Proactive / results driven individual with high levels of initiative to work with multiple organizations to solve integration issues

  • High level analytical ability to resolve unusual and complex problems

  • Able to deal with high level of ambiguity

  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle

  • Practical usage of Rapid Prototyping

  • History of assembling Electronic Prototypes

Desired Skills

  • MS in Engineering with strong understanding of Software and Controls

  • 5+ years experience in software/controls

  • Experience with Vehicle Intelligence Platform

  • Experience with Data Logging tools (ie: Vehicle Spy, Vector Can Loggers, VDR)

  • Participated in Agile Development

  • Has written SW for consumer electronics (RaspPi, Arduino, STM32)

  • Engineering Project Management (ie: PDT, PIT Lead, SWIL, Scrum Lead)

  • Hobbiest in electronics
