Virtual ECU Simulation Integration Engineer

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week

The Role

The Virtual Hardware-in-the-Loop (VHIL) team is a highly technical, highly knowledgeable, passionate, strategic, and visionary group working on an organizational transformation. We are seeking cutting-edge solutions to the question: how do we develop and validate our embedded control system without any hardware? The VHIL team is developing a 100% virtual HIL platform to do just that. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road! This space is ripe with technical leadership opportunities for advanced technology development, as well as the ability to provide mentorship for new employees. You can flex your teamwork muscles as you will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering, IT, and the business.

As a Virtual ECU Simulation Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating simulation components; Level 4 virtual ECUs, plant models, behavioral models, sensor models, and actuator models; into virtual component, subsystem and full system benches.  The virtual benches will be in all areas of a vehicle including, Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) Computing, Electrification, Infotainment & Connectivity, Chassis & Body, and Propulsion.

Responsibilities

  • Identify needed plant, behavioral, sensor, and actuator models for virtual vehicle system benches

  • Work with outside organizations to obtain needed models

  • Adapt, update, and integrate models onto virtual vehicle system benches

  • Integrate new model capabilities onto the platform

  • Integrate virtual controllers onto virtual vehicle system benches

  • Develop, integrate and maintain serial data connectivity links (bridges) between the co-simulation platform and virtual controllers, models and tools.

  • Collaborate across all areas of product development including Global Electrification, Controls, Software & Electronics, Validation, IT, Fuel Cell, Manufacturing to continuously develop platform capabilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics

  • 2+ years of relevant professional engineering experience

  • Expertise in simulation and model-based development

  • Knowledge of electronic control modules and embedded control systems

  • Knowledge in automotive communications (i.e., CAN, LIN, and SPI)

  • Production vehicle program execution experience

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated success in leading challenging projects with high levels of ambiguity to completion

  • Consistent demonstration of GM leadership behavioral competencies

Desired Skills

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science

  • 5+ years of relevant professional engineering experience

  • Expertise with Linux and Windows based software development

  • Knowledge of AutoSAR, QNX OS and GM Cybersecurity standards

  • Expertise in various programming languages (C, C++, Python, System C)

  • Expertise in AutoVal, Intrepid Vehicle Spy, Vector CANoe

  • Software integration, compiler and linker file comprehension expertise

  • CoSimulation software (i.e., GMSim, GT Suite, AMESim etc.) expertise

  • Embedded control system design expertise

  • Familiarity with software development build process and associated tools (i.e., Gerrit, Jenkins, Git, etc.)

  • Familiarity with scalable simulation deployment methodologies leveraging containers (i.e., Docker, Singularity, etc.)

  • Familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous event driven simulation
