Virtualization Engineer


This is a  Hybrid  position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. Relocation may be provided.

In this exciting and visible role, you will be responsible and accountable for the design, implementation, configuration and successful transition to Operations of technologies in the assigned domain. This will include: following standard installation recommendations, configuring the technologies to match the needs of the function being served and delivering to project schedules.

Job Description Summary:

This role requires expert knowledge of technologies in the assigned domain and robust knowledge of general IT concepts. Thorough knowledge of system design principles to include reliability, availability and scalability. Knowledge of peripheral domains is necessary. Extensive knowledge of how to leverage available resources to solve problems and deliver solutions.

Ideal candidates are experienced and motivated technologists who possess a unique balance of technical depth and strong interpersonal skills. You will partner with application owners, global infrastructure teams, global telecommunications teams and several other teams to engineer a scalable, flexible and resilient virtual environment that address customer business problems and needs.

You will be expected to be familiar and proficient with each of the following capabilities:  

  • Work with several technical teams to rationalize throughput and sizing demand to define efficient and effective solutions that bring together technologies from all areas.

  • Act as technical resource to numerous project teams simultaneously. Often you will work as the sole system management engineer, to develop requirements, obtain information from other support groups, execute project tasks, deliver systems, and provide support through the lifecycle of the project.

  • Ensure IT standards are met, production readiness processes are followed and a quality system product is delivered and turned over to Production Support personnel.

  • Escalation of real-time incidents as necessary

  • Mentoring and advising junior staff in appropriate steps to diagnose, repair or remediate issues with systems in the assigned.

  • Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors.

  • Models GM behaviors and creates a winning culture.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Additional Description

Minimum Qualifications-

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or related experience

  • Expert in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, specialization in Azure Virtual Desktop (Planning, Deploying, Configuration, migration, monitor, performance tuning and troubleshooting)

  • Expert at Installing, configuring and maintaining a virtual environment utilizing VMware Horizon View 7.x

  • Expert at creation and maintenance of VDI and RDSH master images

  • Expert at creation and maintenance of desktop and RDSH pools

  • Expert at Creation and maintenance of virtualized applications

  • Experience with Virtual Application packaging and remediation using VMware Horizon AppVolumes

  • Experience with Virtualization infrastructure operations using VMware vSphere 6.x (vCenter, ESXi, VSAN)

  • Strong understanding of Active directory domain services (DNS, DHCP Group Policy)

  • Strong understanding of networking technologies

  • Strong powershell/powerCLI skills to automate repeatable tasks

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

  • Comfortable with on-call 24x7 support responsibilities

  • Experience with working on production systems including change management

  • Strong ability to be proactive and respond to customers, resolve customer queries promptly & professionally, address new requests, enhancements, incidents, etc.

Preferred Qualifications-

  • Experience with Ubuntu desktop platform

  • Experience with VMware Workspace One or vIDM

  • Experience supporting CAD/CAE user base

  • Experience supporting Call Center / Knowledge workers

  • Enterprise Cloud experience (Azure preferable)

  • Advanced powershell/scripting experience in VMware task automation
