Product Owner - Controls and Software Development, EV Propulsion and Thermal Management

This position is classified as a Hybrid position, meaning the successful candidate will work at our Markham office three (3) days per week.

The Role:

The Product Owner (PO) is a member of the Agile Team on the Thermal Management Agile Release Train (ART) responsible for defining Stories and prioritizing the Team Backlog to streamline the execution of the program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the Features or components for the team.  The Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the output of the Agile Team, serves as the Customer Proxy and ensures the Team understands and implements solution intent understanding the business context.  The Product Owner role is highly collaborative with engineering Stakeholders, Customers and the Product Management Team.

The successful candidate will be placed on an Agile Team at CTC within the Propulsion Thermal Management ART.

What You'll Do

  • Refine, update and prioritize the Team Backlog with information from the Product Management Team, Customers and Stakeholders for control and diagnostic systems that fall in the Thermal scope

  • Perform as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Thermal Agile Team’s content

  • Translate product and feature strategy of thermal controls and diagnostic algorithm into user Stories, assisting the team in story definition, identification of exploration enablers, story estimation and sequencing for Program Increment and iteration planning

  • Provide clearly defined acceptance criteria to enable Behavior Driven Development and Test Driven Development

  • Collaborate with the Program Management Team to refine the ART Program Vision, Roadmap, Enablers and Program Backlog

  • Coordinate dependencies with other Product Owners when deliverables are dependent on another team for completion

  • Ensure the technical integrity of the product is maintained and enables the solution to address program priorities (Features and Enablers), through addressing anomalies and other quality concerns in a timely manner

  • Provide guidance to Agile Team to design and develop compliant controls and diagnostic strategies, algorithms, emissions related components, sub-systems and smart devices while mentoring other team members

  • Ensure Safety and OBD Regulatory requirements are met where applicable

  • Work day-to-day with the scrum teams clarifying requirements, removing roadblocks, communicate to gain alignment around feature or product strategy

  • Accepts each story and participates in team demos and retrospectives to validate quality, providing feedback to team and improving team processes

  • Be the customer voice to the Agile Team

  • Participate in the Agile Team and ART Program Events as required

  • Travel as required

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Expert in Controls and Software architecture, development processes and tools. For example: MATLAB Simulink, DOORs, RTC, software build process, unit test and verification tools and principals

  • Strong background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics.  A broad knowledge of thermal analysis, models and characteristics.

  • Demonstrated expertise in engineering OBDII compliant diagnostics, 1968.2 and SAE J1979.

  • Highly proficient at analyzing unusual and complex issues while driving for results in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational agility, collaborative spirit and interpersonal skills to influence effectively across all levels of a large organization

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to plan, prioritize work and execute the plan to meet business objectives on time with quality

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

  • 5+ years of experience in Embedded Controls Development

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • Experience in Agile methodologies, SAFe experience preferred
