Role Summary:

Are you a performance driving enthusiast?  Does working on cutting edge chassis technology get you excited to come to work?  Do you enjoy working on software and calibration?  Are you creative, innovative, and eager to do things we’ve never done before at GM?  If so, you should apply for our new Advanced Chassis Development Engineer role.  In this role, you will be in charge of developing first time features for Active Chassis.  The role will require you to work on a full range of testing tools from simulation to in vehicle testing and everything in between.

The automotive industry is undergoing rapid transformational changes as new chassis technologies are applied to vehicle architectures resulting in innovations to systems and customer centric features.  These changes require the development of new mechatronic chassis systems that influence vehicle dynamics and control steering, braking, driveline and suspension systems.

In this role you will be responsible for the development of advanced chassis technologies with a focus on control requirements, design, calibration and testing for mechatronic systems. You will be part of a cross-functional team, working with GM engineers, suppliers, and academia to leverage invention/ideation in order to develop and verify proof of concept solutions for future GM products.

  • Lead Advance Technology Work (ATW)s

  • Develop project scope, deliverables, timelines, and budget

  • Lead execution and evaluation of designs, analysis, development, testing and control of advanced engineering projects where creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment

  • Manage a cross-functional team through a staged gate process to achieve the project milestones

  • Determine control algorithm requirements, including system robustness, diagnostics and arbitration strategies

  • Create and apply behavioral models in MatLab/Simulink then integrate with plant model (Adams) and a vehicle model, such as CarSim, to determine system performance and interactions

  • Rapid prototype behavioral models into Simulation environment, HIL bench, DiL simulator or vehicles using dSPACE MicroAutoBox solution

  • Define and document required system interfaces, performance metrics and required sub-system tests

  • Define and develop the calibration strategy for vehicle performance
