Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite on average 3 days per week.

About the Role:
General Motors is looking for a passionate Lead Connectivity Standards Engineer to drive strategy and impact connectivity within GM. More importantly, this role will influence the future of global vehicle connectivity across the industry.
As a Lead Standards Engineer, you’ll be responsible for bringing groundbreaking wireless connectivity to the world through Cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and more. You will develop and design GM’s state-of-the art connectivity technologies and collaborate across departments to help GM craft wireless solutions that elevate our vehicles and lead the industry.

Key responsibilities include:

Ability to effectively lead multi-functional groups on technical initiatives and IP generation

Solid understanding of wireless/internet standards, including but not limited to Ultra-Wideband, Near-Field Communication, 3GPP, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wireless Power and their applications

Travel as needed to quarterly standards organization meetings, 10-15% annually (domestic and international)

Additional Description
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Technical bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
-
10+ years of relevant wireless systems, connectivity, or telematics experience
-
Experience with short-range connectivity, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (BT) and/or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), Near-Field Communication (NFC)

Experience working with Zigbee and Matter/Thread

Direct experience with global standardization organizations, such as 3GPP, Wi-Fi Alliance, Bluetooth SIG, IEEE, with a track record in achieving standardization deliveries

Demonstrated success influencing peers and leadership cross functionally, both internally and externally
-
Deep interest, knowledge, and proficiency in standardization and technology trends that impact your success to problem-solve and provide technical expertise to our internal and external customers

Passion for driving business objectives and company vision to action

Ability to collaborate, form relationships, gain credibility, and partner up and down a matrixed organization
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree or Ph.D

15+ years of relevant wireless systems, connectivity, or telematics experience
-
5+ years of connectivity standards experience
-
In-depth, expert knowledge of wireless communication standards, systems, architectures, protocols and algorithms

Previous or current experience with Standards Organizations and in particular, active roles such as Chair or Task Group Lead or Work Group Lead
