Role
GM's Global Electrification Battery Systems(GEBS) group is seeking hands-on experienced cell engineer for cell components to join Advance Cell Component team. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing different cell components such cathodes, anodes, separators, electrolytes, current collectors etc. for various cell programs. The candidate will specifically focus on Bill of Materials (BOM) and Component Technical Specification (CTS) for cell components to meet performance, cost reduction, and scalability requirement for cell programs. The candidate will work and collaborate with Advanced Cell Technology, R&D, Purchasing, and Commercialization teams. The candidate should have strong theoretical and practical knowledge on li-ion battery material characterization, electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and testing. The ideal candidate show exudes a passion for excellence in engineering and seeks solutions to challenging battery problems with strong personal leadership and communication skills and foundational understanding of engineering principles.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead and deliver BOM and CTS for cell components such as cathodes, anodes, separators etc.

Study the material performance of cells, draw conclusions, and share reports to other members in the cross-functional group

Lead or conduct various characterization on incoming materials and develop standard method and tools to characterize the components

Collaborate well with other team members from different organization within the company to identify solution to problems

Recommend new cell materials to improve performance and lower cell cost

Support DFMEA, PFMEA, BOD, BOM, BOP, BOE activities

Actively engage with departments leadership to identify issues/risks and solutions

Develop strategies for cost innovation and drive down cost at every opportunity

Understand the external landscape on cell materials and engage with suppliers to develop partnership to accelerate the cell development

Develop appropriate documentation to support the protection of intellectual property

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Electrochemical Engineering, Materials Science or related.

5+ year of experience in working with cell components
-
Strong hands-on experience with electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and testing
-
Familiar with various material characterization techniques, such as SEM, XRD, PSD, BET, TGA, etc.

Ability to work multi-task with cross-functional teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency with creative problem-solving methods
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

PhD in Chemistry, Chemical/Electrochemical Engineering, Materials Science or related.

5+ year of experience with cell components development, electrode design, fabrication, cell assembly and testing
