Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: The position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility, or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

The Role:


Be part of the Vehicle Viewing and Insights team. You will assist in the development and insertion of new active safety and trailering system technologies!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop well-commented and efficient algorithms for active safety systems, and trailering systems

  • Create comprehensive documentation for written code with links to relevant functions/classes

  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and the rest of the development team to understand key functional and operational requirements of each project

  • Conduct data collection and testing of prototype software & hardware (simulation, bench, and in-vehicle)

  • Participate in design reviews, and make recommendations and proposals based on results

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's (3rd and 4th year students but will consider qualified 2nd year students with EcoCAR, or SAE project experience) or Master's degree in one of the following areas: Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, Controls Systems, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada, and for 12-month term (3 consecutive semesters) starting January 2024

  • A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (please include a copy of your transcript with your application)

  • Experience with Python, Machine Learning, and MATLAB programming

  • C/C++ skills, Data Management

  • Experience with image processing and computer vision algorithms (OpenCV library, ROS)

  • Experience with microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, SoCs, etc) and sensors

  • Have a valid Full Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent Canadian out-of-province licence

  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills

  • Highly adaptable with the ability to work independently and in a team environment

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Basic knowledge of electrical/control systems and digital communication protocols

  • Ability to travel to the US (Recommended)

  • Experience with trailering
