The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Composite Material Design Engineer to join our elite team. GM Motorsports supports NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA and is currently pursuing an entry into Formula 1. As the Composite Material Design Engineer, you will work with the racing programs during all stages of life from part design to lay-up schedule and material selection. With your level of work experience, you can perform finite element analysis (FEA) on parts designed for validation and have the capability to convert surfaces into parts. Position is open to international hiring.  

What You’ll Do

  • Use your Catia, composite materials, and FEA work experience to create solids, surfaces, complex assemblies, and drawings

  • Collaborate with various members of the race program teams using a strong client-oriented focus

  • Partner with others to learn from and share knowledge in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Minimum of 5 years of automotive, motorsports or aerospace post-graduation experience in design composite (carbon fiber) parts

  • Highly skilled in CAD software - CATIA or 3DX

  • Work experience using FEA tools - HyperMesh, Abaqus

  • Strong understanding of composite materials properties and manufacturing process

  • Solid and surface modeling

  • Oversee the manufacturing and testing of composite components, ensuring they meet the highest quality and safety standards

  • Knowledge of aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics

  • Continuously seek opportunities for innovation and improvements in composite material design and manufacturing processes

  • Ability to handle multiple programs efficiently

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills

  • Passion for motorsports and a desire to contribute to the team’s success

  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics

  • Knowledge of aerodynamics

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field

  • Participation in either professional or amateur racing
